@martintrail I think it’s just marketing text and it takes Climb v2 into account, or something like that.

@martintrail said in Suunto Vertical 2 General Discussion:

        On Suunto website:
        Offline maps, improved navigation

What is improved in navigation and different than V1?

A few new bugs besides the well-known and popular ones 😂

@martintrail it is almost certainly about the new navigation compared with previous released watches, except the R2. You cannot expect new customers to know all the software updates that happened since V1 release, a new customer watched V1 reviews from 2 and a half years ago, and navigation is different from then.

One thing I like in Vertical 2 vs Race 2 is the strap.
It is more flexible and streching - the Race 2 strap is too stiff for me.

Otherwise I have still kept my V1, but it has been staying in the drawer, since V2 TI arrived.
No idea if I will take it out for the next 32h race - V2 will do this as well.

@Egika That watch face looks pretty cool, a lof of informations but doesn’t feel too overwhelmed

@Egika agreed on the stiffness of the R2 band, I am not going to use it. It’s the least comfortable band from Suunto. On the other hand the nylon ones are top.

                  elevation_contour_line.JPG

As advertised on SV2 pictures, elevation is displayed on the contour line. May we expect this information on SV1 through software/map update?

@sebchastang Good point. The Vertical 1 has lower resolution, so it’s unclear whether this can be implemented legibly.

If someone at Suunto knew even the basics of marketing, they would have released a Vertical 2 with additional informations on the screen to practically demonstrate the advantages of the AMOLED screen. Instead of current buggy software still without bugfixes (regeneration, sensors, synchronization with iOS etc.).
And this comes a month after an almost identical (in reality) model – Race 2.

@sebchastang I don’t think this is an actual screen, I have not seen altitude markings on contour lines. Plus the middle button symbol in my watch is an arrow and not two >>

                              My 2 cents

                              • Too heavy
                              • Too expensive
                              • No MIPS 😞

I see no reason to upgrade from the Race S which is lighter for half the price. The AMOLED Torch works really well, only difference I see is Display size and battery lifetime. For both I don’t care, so not for me

Only possible plus: Maybe the Vertical 1 price gets reduced 🙂

@Egika what means “Auto zoom based on route shape”. Spotted that as a difference already on Race2, now on SV2 ?

My thoughts ; disappointed because not enought to make me upgrade my SV1 and because there are really not big differences with SR2…but afterall it’s a good move :

                                • what bother me the most is that touchscreen still can’t be activited during activities to navigate from a screen to another (but maybe it will change with updates to come) / no personnal battery modes so far. That’s what bother me the most on my SRs.
                                • Solar gone => well, I’m proud to use my SV1 that have it, but battery life is so insane that i have never really paid attention to solar charging
                                • bigger screen and amoled resolution => using amoled on my SV it’s a huge plus and confort, and no issue in sunlight. Bigger and sharper is better.
                                • battery life with amoled => I guess charging “more regularly” could be a bit annoying when you are used to SV1, but If charging goes as fast as it goes for my SRs it shouldn’t be a problem
                                • Always on needed for cycling => even if @isazi mentionned around 50/60% of autonomy loss, my longest bike journey so far was 8 hours, so guess we are maybe putting so much emotion on that point…Still hopping a suunto bike computer to arrive some day
                                • led flashight => well, why not but IMHO more a marketing decision to compet garmin
                                • loved the SV1 design, not disappointed by SV2. And even if SR2 design if far better than SR1, SV2 is much nicer to me.
                                • sensors (OHR) improvements => better but not as good as belt ; I’ll probably stop using Belts when OHR sensors will be perfect or if suunto releases some day a arm strap like coros compatible with zonesens
                                • no more made in Finland => I still hope that customized models will be made in Finland (that would be clever to keep that to answer to those who want a made in finland watch like me ; that’s probably a niche, but still makes sense).

All that said => I will keep my SV1 and SRs for now, waiting to see what next updates will bring us that my SV1 will not support.

As Suunto Race also has it, I don’t think this is something new to Vertical 2…

I think you got most points right.
And I guess Suunto’s approach was not to make as many existing customers change to new models.
I guess the new models were designed to have an up to date model available for new customers. Like if I am to buy a sports watch, would I look for a model that has been on the market for 3 years, or something more recently introduced?

As far as I have been told, Suunto Vertical will stay in the portfolio as the MIP (and optional Solar) model.

@Egika The problem is that Vertical 1 requires a newer OHR, the rest may still be enough for a few more years.

Fully agree. When I say « disappointed » it’s because I love the brand ; change would have be more to satisfy my envy more than my needs (and because I’m a very reasonable guy, that’s why I don’t change for now ! I just need to deal with frustrations now !! 😁 )
