I found a mention of a Solar version in the manual. Can we expect another version of the Vertical 2 Solar?

6.2. Solar charging (only valid for the solar version)
The solar version of Suunto Vertical 2 has a solar charging feature that will charge your watch
when it is exposed to light. Some watch faces have a complication icon that shows how much
solar energy is currently being harvested.
On a sunny day, the sun can provide your watch with 30% more battery life during training
and even more in time mode (calculations made with an impact of 50 000 lux).

From what I have read in other places and what I can guess, no more MIP screens in new Suunto devices and no more development from MIP screen manufacturers that makes the technology obsolete comparing to others.

It seems that Suunto won’t discontinue the SV1, so this will be their MIP device.

I was really, really looking forward to this watch

From the datasheet and video, my thoughts :

Love the design and the improved screen/body ratio.
Love the continuation of sapphire glass, improvement to HR sensor
Disappointed by the lack of solar.
Hate the absence of MIP, who is still giga relevant for an adventure watch, for high brightness conditions and gigantic battery life (and the “always on” is much better)
I kinda hoped that the flagship watch would be manufactured in Finland

@martintrail I think it’s just marketing text and it takes Climb v2 into account, or something like that.

@martintrail it is almost certainly about the new navigation compared with previous released watches, except the R2. You cannot expect new customers to know all the software updates that happened since V1 release, a new customer watched V1 reviews from 2 and a half years ago, and navigation is different from then.

One thing I like in Vertical 2 vs Race 2 is the strap.
It is more flexible and streching - the Race 2 strap is too stiff for me.

Otherwise I have still kept my V1, but it has been staying in the drawer, since V2 TI arrived.
No idea if I will take it out for the next 32h race - V2 will do this as well.

@Egika That watch face looks pretty cool, a lof of informations but doesn’t feel too overwhelmed

@Egika agreed on the stiffness of the R2 band, I am not going to use it. It’s the least comfortable band from Suunto. On the other hand the nylon ones are top.

As advertised on SV2 pictures, elevation is displayed on the contour line. May we expect this information on SV1 through software/map update?

@sebchastang Good point. The Vertical 1 has lower resolution, so it’s unclear whether this can be implemented legibly.

If someone at Suunto knew even the basics of marketing, they would have released a Vertical 2 with additional informations on the screen to practically demonstrate the advantages of the AMOLED screen. Instead of current buggy software still without bugfixes (regeneration, sensors, synchronization with iOS etc.).
And this comes a month after an almost identical (in reality) model – Race 2.
