Suunto Race 2 General Discussion
-
@v.sacre it’s only a facelift…
-
@martintrail No haters at all. I do love Suunto. Just indeed as @Likarnik says, it is a facelift, smart upgrade a Suunto Race 1 with optimised design, materials and sensors. But no major new features.
-
@Likarnik This facelift is enough for me. I had Race 1 for some weeks but I had to return it due to the extended case lugs that rubbed my skin and wrist bone. Ordered one already.
-
I understand the missing wow effect, I have been testing this watch for months now, and if I was a Race user I would probably not upgrade. But if I was on the market for a new watch, coming from another brand or an older Suunto watch, I would.
The hardware is much improved, it is a more future proof watch, and some aspects were tweaked for comfort (weight, lug shape), or accuracy (OHR).
Oh, the screen is really amazing.
-
@isazi Great summary
-
@isazi that’s my feeling as a Race user.
What I really don’t understand is the use of the “old SW platform” (Race 1) instead of the “new SW platform” (Suunto Run)… let see if Vertical 2 integrate this new platform… -
@isazi said in Suunto Race 2 General Discussion:
Oh, the screen is really amazing.
Yes, and battery life… is impressive.
-
@smopi Joaquin is also saying that there is a new WIFI that will speed-up the maps download
-
@suzzlo I do not like the Run software platform, at all, maybe in a year or two it will be mature enough to replace the old software, but for now it would not be accepted on a flagship device
-
@isazi probably this is the reason… no race/vertical with new platform until it’s mature enough
-
@isazi is the hr monitor the same of the Run?
-
@Hari-Seldon no
-
@isazi @Hari-Seldon and that is the reason for my comment. There is the older sensor in the Race and Vertical, a newer sensor in the Race S, a different one in the Run and another new sensor in the Race 2…
My feeling with the Race S is that the sensor itself is very good, but the software struggles to make full use of the hardware. At times the HR is spot on, and sometimes it is way off…
-
Maybe one major update is the new magnetic charger. I imagine that it is better than current one.
-
@2b2bff Suunto is improving in the OHR department because this is something that still not works as good as other aspects (such as GPS accuracy)
-
@v.sacre you are correct, it is better than the current one (although, I charge my Vertical once every 2-3 weeks, so I do not really complain about the charger)
-
Still waiting for a Vertical S (with no AMOLED) or a 10PP with maps
-
@isazi I’m sure the new sensor is a good one with that many light sources. But I think if the software side cannot keep up with the good sensor, new hardware won’t be the rescue…
-
@2b2bff I do not understand what do you mean with that. Which software?
-
Looks fantastic but at $AU900, it’s too expensive for me - I wonder if they considered the Race S internals with the larger screen at a lower price point?
Also, it’s a bit disappointing that they didn’t include MP3 upload and playback.
