Steps

Since swapping from a Suunto Spartan Ultra to the Peak Pro Titanium, I have found that my steps each day are significantly reduced. Today I put the two devices to the test and carried both on the same wrist during some exercise and also around the house. I wore the Peak Pro lower on the wrist (if that makes a difference)
The difference between the two watches is substantial at 30%. When exercising (a 5km walk in this case) the two watches recorded approximately the same steps, but there is a substantial difference in recording of incidental movements. For activities such as cooking, hanging out washing, shopping and other household duties the Spartan recorded about twice as many steps as the Peak Pro.Which one is right?
For me both watches systematically under record during exercise. My real steps are about 1,200 per km but on both watches I usually average about 900 steps per km. If I make sure to swing my arms, then it records accurately, but this does not reflect real life.
For incidental activity I believe the Peak Pro is under significantly recording.
Both watches are at the latest version of the software.
I would interested in the experience of others.

The Suunto 3 is right. The only Suunto watch which is counting steps and nothing else. 🧐

@Chris-Stevenson both are wrong.
Watches worn on the wrist are not able to accurately count what your legs do. They can more or less accurately guess.
That’s about it.
As many complained that the watches were counting steps while driving a car or cooking a meal etc, Suunto has tweaked sensitivity down with the latest FW for your 9PP. That’s why it is reporting less than the old model. -
I second this, I use STRYD Duo (one pod on each shoe) and there’s no watch on earth that actually comes closer to real # of steps taken.

Before the update in July, it registered too many steps. But now it registers too few! When I get up from the couch and go to the kitchen and back, it doesn’t register any steps. Please adjust the settings again!
