DND during activity disable activity notifications
-
@Anthony-Guillemette
instead of putting watch in DND, you should deactivate “receive notification”, if it is you need -
@Mff73 Ok I see it in “Configuration panel (long bottom press) > Notifications > Receive mobile notifications”.
So it’s me how misunderstoond the functionality ^^
-
@Mff73 i would like to have the watch i DND in general, but in an activity, laps and intervall and such should override this and vibrate anyway. No way to do this unfortunately, as far as I know atleast…
So I keep my watch with vibration on so I wont forget to turn that in before an activity. (I could never remember that…) Then I have auto DND for the night. This works OK, but not optimal for me.
-
@Mff73 So I tried… and it’s not a satisfactory workaround for me.
Disabling “receive notification” is not applied just for activy but forever. So I had to restore this after the activity.
For my use, I just want to disable mobile notifications during activity only. -
@Anthony-Guillemette
You wrote that you activated DND for activities, so it seemed that you were not against activating a specific setting.
If you want specific profiles of “sounds/vibrations” per activity only, it is not there yet.
Requests for that are already in this forum… Wait and see… -
@Mff73 Yes, I’m okay with enabling a specific setting on the activity. But not on the entire use of the watch
-
@Anthony-Guillemette what Mff73 wanted to say is: DND is a global setting as well. If you enable it for activity it will be enabled for normal watch use. The same as the notification setting.
To achieve what you want (vibration for activity information, but not for phone messages) can be achieved in four different ways:
- as mentioned, disable notifications on the watch
- disable BT in the whatch (enable flight mode) -> BT sensor cannot be used in this case
- leave your phone at home
- disable BT in the phone
-
@Egika I have already considered these different solutions, but they all prevent you from being able to listen to music online on Spotify or elsewhere.
So, I download the playlists so that they are available in offline mode and I put the phone in airplane mode by reactivating BT. It’s restrictive because it limits downloaded playlists but it’s doable.It also sometimes happens that I go on a bit of an adventure with an approximate trace, particularly to discover new trails. And sometimes I get stuck and have to retrace my route with an alternative solution. I then have to take the phone out of airplane mode to be able to modify the route, and resynchronize with the watch. Then return to airplane mode and manually reactivate BT.
Again, there is a workaround, but it is restrictive. Being able to say “during this activity, I want to stay connected to the phone and the internet, but I don’t want to have notifications” seems pretty basic to me.
This is why DND mode is perfect for this, even if it is not specific to the activity but global to the watch. But as much as in “normal” mode, I expect it to cut off all notifications and vibrations, as much as in “activity” mode I would like to have activity notifications (auto lap, turn by turn, … ).
-
@Anthony-Guillemette whatever seems basic: this activity-specific setting is not there.
So you have to live with one of the 4 options.
If you need phone BT for music, then there is option #5
5) disconnect watch in the BT settings of the phone during the workout -
@Egika I know, but it could be a great improvement. This is why I throw this suggestion here.

Hi,
I’m a former Polar user and I’ve been moving to Suunto’s ecosystem for a week now. Everything seems to work with my new Suunto Race S super great and the change from Polar to Suunto haven’t been as hard as I expected. Today was my first run with Suunto and everything seemed to work like a charm until there suddenly started a long conversation in one WhatsApp group chat and because of that I got notifications about new messages so often that I missed several 1k running marks. I never had this kind of problems with Polar and I must say that I’m quite disappointed that there really isn’t build in feature to mute mobile notifications while training. -
@Akuaku turn off BT is my workarround atm
-
@Akuaku I literally run away from my phone (i leave it at home). My activity time is my time to disconnect… no phone and no distractions.
-
Does DND mode doesn’t solve the problem?
-
My experience that DND completely turn off every alarm and notification including notification from S+ as well.
Which is hearting me that when automatic DND turn on with sleep monitoring, then the sunrise alarm cannot work, while DND active. This is not so practical, I think.
On the otherhand for example in IOS there is a really good stuff for this, which is Focus. There I can create focus profiles and customize which type of notifications are active or not. Unfortunately this is not work with Suunto App, so every notification landing on the watch, whatever focus profile is active on the phone.I guess from the mix of those two above resulted in a perfect solution.
-
I would really like to have a “Do Not Disturb during activity” option in the activities menu that would be a bit different from the general “DND” function:
- disable mobile notifications (only during activity)
- keep loop vibrations and automatic lap notifications
As I said before, disabling BT on the phone is not a possible workaround for me because I want to run with music (BT headset).
-
@Anthony-Guillemette
And from the app itself?
I just checked, it can be toggled during activity. -
@Mff73 yep, could be another workaround. But it need to be manually reactived after activity.
Still just a workaround ^^
