On my effort to get a Vo2 Max from SR, I ended up with a strained calf and a achiles tenonditis. Because I’m not really a runner, I am a long distance walker, and a cycler. I can’t tolerate the impact of running on my bones and body. And that’s perfectly fine.

So why does the SR force you to run (for quite a bit of time) and only takes running as an input exercise?

Why are exercises with a smaller body impact (e.g. swimming, cycling) excluded from the calculation algorithm? Your heart rate goes up there as well. (are they?)

I hope the SR dev/product team are reading this. If not, I’d be happy to send them my suggestions.

@George-Katsanos The ‘‘problem’’ with VO2 Max is that you also have to go to the maximum for a correct measurement.
        It’s not called VO2 Max(imal) for nothing.

If you take a VO2 Max test with a sports doctor, you have to give yourself maximum effort until you really can’t do it anymore, on an increasingly faster treadmill, which is very difficult.

While you run they often also do a lactate test to determine your threshold/lactate heart rate.

If someone’s maximum heart rate is 180bpm, your threshold is probably around 160bpm and then you have to reach or exceed that value during your weekly interval and threshold run.
And then a Suunto watch should give a correct VO2Max value.

Running a test in youre Aerobic zone or walking will always give an incorrect value.

@Jacobus agreed! but you can achieve a high heart rate/exercise using other forms of exercise besides running, right?

And if the heart rate isn’t enough, there’s sensors for cycling (speed, cadence, power)

You can take a lab test in order to measure your vo2max. Guess how it’s performed?

What the algorithm essentially does is that it compares your hr and pace to preexisting tables (from lab measures).

It’s somewhat reliable when running as in principle you need only the watch to supply the algorithm with all the necessary data (speed, hr, also power if it’s used).

@Łukasz-Szmigiel got it… so basically no way to measure your vo2 max unless you run
