S+ Race pacer
-
@herlas I was able to set XX.5 mins in the app but since the watch shows a gap between you and ‘pacer’ in meters it’s hard to check whether such hack works or not.
Anyways, despite ‘race pacer’ is useful (on paper), in general, this feature requires further improvements because it doesn’t cover so many use cases
-
@false It looks like you haven’t understood the function of the app correctly. The difference (gap) between your actual time and the targeted one is shown in minutes and seconds at the top of the screen. The distance shown at the bottom of the screen is the remaining distance of the race.
-
@soisan I’ve understood it right but I did a mistake when I was writing about it
It was meant to be
I was able to set XX.5 mins in the app but since the watch shows a gap between you and ‘pacer’ in MINUTES it’s hard to check whether such hack works or not.
Which means - since a watch doesn’t show target PACE for the desired time I can’t check whether the hack with decimals works or not. It requires to do some maths on the run which is hard
-
@false If you want to check that without any calculations, you can record a manual lap with the lower button while the gap is 0:00. The lap pace is the same as the target pace. At the beginning of an activity, getting a null gap shouldn’t be difficult.
-
@soisan That’s right! Or check your pace when the gap is 0 - I didn’t think about it
Anyway, it would be much much better to see all this stuff in the app, incl. time settings within hours, minutes and seconds
-
Agreed, specifying minutes was a good starting point for this awesome S+ app that was long time overdue on Suunto .
Please pass along this feedback to the concerning team/dev about expanding this S+ app to include hh/mm/ss in the configuration,
-
@Raimo-Järvi FYI I was also allowed to install on my S5P but I’m guessing, like the S9P it doesn’t support config so also isn’t compatible. When I attempted to use the app during a workout the screen briefly showed a few red error blocks and then switched back to the previous screen.
-
Just an update on this. After installing the app and finding it didn’t work I then found that it ‘broke’ syncing for all other suuntoplus apps. I was unable to update, add or remove guides or apps in any way. I tried a restart and it didn’t fix things so tried a factory reset. This basically ‘bricked’ the watch and I had to resort to using SuuntoLink to reinstall the firmware from scratch - which thankfully did work.
-
@far-blue You’re correct, it shouldn’t be available for S5P either. We will fix it, I’m sorry it has taken so long. Thank you for the feedback, and apologies for having to reinstall your watch.
-
@Raimo-Järvi No worries and no criticism, I mainly posted the update in case other people hit the same problem
-
@Raimo-Järvi can you advise if it’s planned to update this awesome S+ app to include goal time input in following format hh:mm:ss?
Even the links listed in the app description such as below, allow you to enter in such format to calculate the pace :
Any comments would be greatly appreciated

Phew, what a nuisance! I hadn’t put that S+app to use yet, but I was thinking of doing so… and now I’ve had a scare.
What model of watch did this happen to you? Or can it happen with any model (which I don’t think it can)?
-
@enriqueescoms It should work fine for the S9PP, the Race and the Vertical. These watches support S+ apps with configuration options.
The problem is with the S9P and S5P and similar older watches that don’t support configuration options in S+ apps. In my case it was with a S5P.

Hi, I‘m testing out the Race Pacer and I‘m wondering, in which time format the input has to be. Example: I have a 3km run and want to finish at 15mins and 30 seconds. Will it be 15:30 or 15,5???
-
@GuyIncognito i used a half

As things stand this app is useless. I mean is it as hard to let us input hours, minutes and seconds? Is it as hard to let us choose between positive, negative and even splits and then show the result right in the app? A lot of math to do?

I used it for a 23k 600m D+ trail race recently and it worked flawlessly. I put in even pacing for a 2:30:00 finish, used this with climb guidance and ZoneSense to finish in 2:30:22. Input the distance, the time I wanted to finish and an even split. I thought not useless at all.

This sounds fantastic…is it ok for the S9PP?
-
@wakarimasen should be

IMO, the UX team has a lot to improve here.- You have to calculate finish time in minutes, it’s ok for 2.30 marathon but what about more complex time? I think it’s not a user’s job to convert 60 minutes in hour to decimals.
- If app has links to third-party calculators why not to use their functionality? Just several options for positive split plus even. Where is negative? It’s quite obvious for race planning tools.
- It’s also a good idea to show splits after calculation, otherwise it’s a total surprise for the end user. Of course there’s a workaround - you can check them in 3rd party planner, but…
