Komoot : one way syncing
-
Hello,
I’d like to know if it’s possible to set the sync to one way : I’dl like to make a tour on komoot and import it in Suunto, but once the tour is recorded with my Suunto, I don’t want it to be sync back to komoot.If not possible, is it possible to import a gpx (made with komoot), and have a turn by turn navigation ? I tried today and no turn by turn navigation.
Thank youRegards
Yan

- Not possible, sync is 2 way only
- I’ll let others answer, as I don’t use navigation on my watch and never even tried what you suggest…

2- i am not sure, but i think that exporting gpx from komoot and then using a third party tool to import this gpx as a route into your suunto account, should work with turn-by-turn.
runalyze at least can do that push to suunto (manual one by one file, not any sync) -
@martin
Thank you very much.Could this thread be moved to feature suggestion, as a one way syncing could be great.
I selected “share with” on the gpx file created with komoot, and chose Suunto App (ios) to “share” it, and it imported it in Suunto app. But once loaded on the watch, I had no turn by turn notification.
(I did’t use any thrid party to import/create, other than Komoot and Suunto app).
Thank you

@treizeXiii sync is done by Komoot, so it is Komoot sending to Suunto and reading from Suunto. You could ask Komoot to implement a 1-way sync, however I doubt they would like it, as importing activities for them is important (discovering routes, heatmaps, having people share and use Komoot more).

@isazi
Good IDea, I’ll ask. Thank you.
In Garmin, It was possible.
I’m just discovering the benefits and caveat f the Suunto (vs Garmin) whole system.
Thank you. -
@treizeXiii
Would you share this gpx exported from Komoot? -
I have just checked this with a file. If it syncs from Kamoot I get turn by turn directions (which I find annoying and turn off…) But if I downloaded the same ride onto my phone then upload to SA there are no turn by turn directions.

@treizeXiii one workaround you could try is to set your default for activities to private in Komoot, that way you can allow 2-way sync but not have your activities seen by others. That said, depending on your use case, it might clutter your Komoot account with activities…
As far as I’m concerned, I have different uses/friends on Komoot vs. Strava. As I use Komoot only for bike rides and have a dedicated Wahoo bike GPS, I dropped the Komoot connection from SA, and have it with the Wahoo account. It should be noted that the Wahoo/Komoot connection does not allow any setting, so it’s 2 way or off. -

I guess Garmin being far bigger than Komoot they can enforce wathever they want.
These days Komoot probably has a bigger user base than Suunto, so they are probably the ones dictating the sync behaviour to their advantage. -

i may think that Komoot is also not exporting (via gpx file export) their turn-by-turn information.
I downloaded one file from my small unlocked region and the gpx file doesn’t contain any wpt entries.Probably, as @isazi wrote, it is a business decision on their side to share with partners turnbyturn through 2 ways sync, but not to export tbt outside the app/web for any other usage.
Just my guess
