Heart Rate Measurement stops
-
Hi all,
same here!
Usually it happens to me twice a week: I wake up and HR sensor green light is not working at all, so I need to soft reset the watch to reinitialise the sensor.
It’s really really annoying…
@Brad_Olwin, do you have updates on this issue?
-
Same for me. I have to soft reset every 3 days I think it was pointed somewhere in this forum the issue is related to last firmware bug (I see my green light always flashing). It drains battery a lot.

This behaviour is the opposite of mine, i.e., the green light is like turned off, so it does not flash at all. At least, my battery is not draining…

@Matúš flashing all day ends up being dark after some time in my case If I would not reset, it would be not flashing.

Hello! Sorry for my mistakes with the language.
Since January 2024, my Suunto 9 peak pro stops measuring heart rate at night. In the morning the LED lights are off and it doesn’t work again if I don’t turn the clock on and off. I already did soft resets and a hard reset but the problem comes back after a few days. I bought the watch in August 2023 and it started crashing in January 2024, when I updated the firmware to 2.30.38. Suunto support chat indicated that I should send it to warranty, but I live in Argentina and we do not have Suunto service here.
Can anyone share experience? Thank you! -
@Ariel, hi!
Same here, with as well a 9PP: I woke up and the flashing light was off, with all the consequences related to the HR, HRV, resources, etc… So, I need to soft rest the watch to restart the HR sensor.
This problem has happened to me mainly between December and January, about a half a dozen times; in February, not at all.
I do not know where the problem comes from, actually, I only soft reset the watch at that times and for now, it never happen again (); nothing has became know by the Suunto insiders here on the forum.

@Matúš
it’s known and reported -

it’s known and reported≠ it’s known what is going on…

Well… It happened again last night.
Anyway, I do not know if this could be a hint to solve this issue, but…
Following my daily routine, I’m almost certain that since the last time the OHR sensor has crashed I always synchronized the watch twice a day, so once in the morning (some hours after waking up) and once in the late afternoon/evening (let’s say, around the dinner time), but definitely before night time.
Yesterday, I have synchronized the watch only once in the early afternoon, so no synchronization before going to bed. Then, around midnight, the OHR sensor has crashed and this morning I did the watch soft-reset.
I know that this hypothesis may sounds strange and out of context with respect to the issue, but it’s the only “anomaly” that I’m able to associate to the last OHR sensor crash.

You may be right. I sync my S9PP every hour (this happens with the external app macrodroid to have the correct data for the sync to Google Fit) and since that procedure I never had a stop of the heart rate measurement in the night. Before it happened 2 times a week …
-
@pilleus, “It is the same motif three times repeated. That cannot be coincidence” it is said by Poirot in a Christie’s novel…
Then, waiting for the third coincidence!
-
@Matúš byť I do synch 6x per day at least and still it does happen. I found one case when it always crashes - it’s if I start to log activity (hr belt, wrist unit hr off) and finish. If I do not restart after synch, it does crashes.
And if the battery is close to 0%, but happened once, so I can’t confirm association to issue.
-
I have noticed this a few times not sure if its related but I went for a run yesterday with the Smart HR Belt connected and the wrist heart rate appeard to stop during the night so only a couple of hours of sleep recorded, i have also found that the smart HR belt doesnt appear to connect first time like it used too.

@thailon, since my last message, I can report these:
-
Sunday/Monday: OHR sensor stopped working, with the last synchronization of the watch more or less twelve hours before
-
Monday/Tuesday: very bad sleep tracking (the watch has reported about three hours of sleep while I have slept almost eight hours straight), the last synchronization around 21
-
Tuesday/Wednesday: OHR sensor stopped working again, even if I have synchronized the watch again around 21; strange unusual thing? The weather forecast widget was not showing any data. Then, I do not why, I have changed the watch face to the last one available in 9PP’s watch faces list (never ever used)
-
Wednesday/Thursday: I woke up and, even before I have done a hundred footsteps, the watch has vibrated and lighted up showing me the sleep tracking report (never before so damn accurate!); the vibration and the lighting up of the watch were an unexpected news: it has never happened to me with the other face watches that I have used in the last year
This morning, again, vibration and lighting up of the watch and a very accurate sleep report at once I have left the bed.
Well… Is the watch face influencing the watch behaviour?? I’m getting crazy with this watch… And then, now that with this watch face the watch briefly stop the sleep tracking when I get up, what if I get up in the night for some water, the sleep tracking will be interrupted as well?
@minimark069, I’m not able to give you a feedback referring to the HR belt, I usually train relying on the OHR sensor (for me woks properly).

I have noticed that the S9PP starts a second sleep cycle when sleep is interrupted (getting up during the night). You can’t see it on the watch or in the app, but if you synchronize the sleep to Google Fit, two sleep cycles are displayed. One from falling asleep to getting up during the night, the second from falling asleep again to getting up in the morning.
-
@Matúš I’m going to try to change watch face, even I like the current one I use.
Just wanted to write, that my unit didn’t track sleeping last night even I have restarted it before night. I’m starting to be so pissed of more and more and level of annoyment is so high that’s better not to start describing it right now.
I have find out one thing. I cleaned my watches after some activity and once wet, the green light started to be constantly flashing. I dried it up, didn’t help, so restarted again. Then I use strong light to light the sensor and It started flashing again, so reboot was necessary again. I think it has something to do with hardware.
Anyhow, I gonna bring the watches back to store when stop tracking is going to happen again. I will show them that’s it is no measuring the values, there is nothing official what to do and for me it means it’s faulty. Enough is enough. I’m Suunto fan from T3c but spending always more than 300€ for faulty units with NO response from company with even no bug fixing for 3 months!!! when user’s - customers - test results showing them issues for free - which is nonsense and nothing is happening, that’s behavior of ignorance and lack of quality processes in this company, unfortunately. I do see basic functionalities are not tested, working and even fixed if reported as buggy.
Would we use e.g. car if speed is displayed incorrectly and nothing happens? Would you buy car from thus company again? It’s the same. Basic feature.
But most sad moment for me is lack of communication from company. That’s what hurts the most.
-
@thailon you are right man Hope you find help here
-
@Matúš I use the face you selected from the beginning.
-
The heart rate measurement stops more and more often during sleep. When will this bug be fixed?
-
@Adamhert nobody knows, that’s the fact.
