3D on the BIG Screen
-
@tonyg well this kind of feature i in my opinion for wow effect. Like you are with friend and you show them 3D fly over your hikd/run/bike. It is not usefull at all but it is nice for advertisement.
On other hand you will not show web app, fitness level instructions or another usefull features to friends when you are otside on beer with them. So personally i think this is just some not really good management decision.

@tomas5 memories also.

@tomas5 I’d say suunto does it to prome itself, so it can get more users -> more resources, which would lead to all kinds of new things for fans.
If you have paid attention to recent suunto strategy, you might have noticed quite a few moves to appeal to a broader public: suunto ambassador program has been expanded greatly, music control has been added, now this feature. One might argue that even s9p design was created with a less rugged outdoor look for the same reason. I trust suunto knows what it’s doing, let’s see, where this path leads. -
Suunto’s strategy has lately been, to connect to a super broad variety of other services where one could analyze the data.
If Suunto had their own data analysis it would be nice but not suit everyone. Since there are so many services out there from Strava, TP, QS, Runalyze to swim.com plus many more, the idea to use the Suunto App as the sync and planning base, makes sense to me.
Most of the services you can link have a web representation. -
@tomas5 And that is why you have a large number of 3rd party web services that are dedicated to just that. This allows Suunto to focus on the hardware and integration. Frankly, MC did not have sufficient analysis tools for me, I miss some parts but prefer better mobile integration and offline functionality.
-
@brad_olwin I agree. Suunto make fantastic watches and should focus on that. Others can focus on great web applications.

In some cases in 3d Playback route is hidden by terrain. It’s always rotated in same way?

Great feature!. But in some of my hikes route is hidden in 3D Playback by terrain. View is always rotating in same way?

@piotr-pientka somebody mentioned that it will be fixed in the future.
-
@brad_olwin well integration between app and watch is not better than before. So i think this is not the case. Now all sport modes are only in watch so after hard reset i need to setup everything from begining compared to ambit where it was stored in cloud and easily restored. And i could change and sync later, didn’t need a watch to prepare some sport modes. Backlight settings compared to Garmin watch is simple and doesn’t provide as much possibility to customize. Than there are bugs that for example you list trough options for example language or another setting and regardless you confirm or press back, either way it will set current listed item etc. So i am affraid it is not that suunto focus more on firmware and integration. It looks like that everything gets simplified and cuts down as much as possible maybe to make better profit?
-
@brad_olwin and third party services are great possibility but there should be som in house ecosystem too. It is like you but the car, but company says you sorry we focus on great body and engine, but if you like to have radio you must go to ask another company, and if you like to have headlights, well we prepared wires but ask somebody to provides light becouse we don’t focus on that part.
-
@tomas5 actually it used to be the case (with car audio). Novadays there are often collabs between audio brands and car manufacturers. Because brands. Even Suunto does this with algorithms (not developed in house).
There are basic metrics - in the app. I think that ditching web platform is a bold move but it makes sense. It can be love or hate but considering how many specialised services are there - I don’t think it’s a problem.
-
@łukasz-szmigiel well i have main problem with this that i sync to suunto app, i add some photos to events, even some description. But than i go to strava/quantified-self etc. and description/name/photos are not transfered additionally. Than another problem is oposite direction.
Than for example in strava i crop activity because i forget to stop or something, and guess what, it is not sync back to suunto app.
In the end i need to use one web like quantified -self to better analyse recorded moves, second web like strava where i have few friends, third web app to create gpx routes and than manualy copy gox file to phone and than upload to suunto app. All is possible but it is much more inconvinient like it would be with proper inhouse platform under single domain and sigle user account.
-
And i know i am not only one because before i had multiple friend with suunto but lot of them transitioned to another brand because missing web app for pc. And other missing features. But i really like design of suunto watch, and still firmware is good even in my opinion it is going to worst in some scenarios. I would like to stick with suunto for future too. But for me this will be main reason to go somewhere else
Not soon i hope S5 will serve st least for 4-5 years, so maybe things will get back on track like it was before, i can still hope. -
@tomas5 I agree that this is a bummer that when it’s synced it’s done and doesn’t update when the edits are made.
-
Meanwhile Coros is rolling out a pretty powerful web portal. So now Suunto is the only major fitness watch brand that doesn’t have a web platform.
-
@tomas5
the missing possibility to crop activities when you forget to stop the watch when you’re finished is indeed a pain in the backside! -
…I notice that we drifted a bit off from @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos 's original post, telling us that 3D track movie is now available on big screen…
but I do understand why: there are keywords that trigger expectations, like “big screen” or in my case everything that is related to “lock” -
@freeheeler yeah there are few features that i really miss. I don’t want to be just complaining i really like suunto brand. And i complain because i don’t want to go away from this brand in future. So i hope that when i “scream” somebody will listen :D. I just hope Suunto will not end up as famous nokia in past. It was best phones ever and then they did some bad decisions and never recovered when they didn’t jump on android “train”.
-
I think there are things we miss no matter device we use. I also often caught myself thinking: Oh man, I miss structured intervals, or miss weather, or miss payment on the watch. And then when I had it (like I bought Garmin), I used it once, twice, and no more. I try to say is that Suunto has its strategy, and not everybody must agree, but I do not feel they are heading the “Nokia destiny.” They are precise, simple-to-use with many features that most people are not even using. They have a beautiful design and a great mobile app. Yes, they lack the web, but honestly, I don’t want to sound unpolite, but I think it is more for the older generation (I’m 38 y.o.). These days, it is all about phones that are often more powerful than laptops. People tend to use smaller devices in the majority of cases during the day. I know it’s more convenient to plan your route on the big screen so use Komoot or Plotaroute to Strava. Look at Garmin Connect. Planning route there is a f***g disaster. And Polar Flow? Not worth commenting. Anyways, Suunto needs to listen and update continuously and not fall asleep, no doubt.
