@optics-field-test No worries I am by no means an expert on batteries (far from it in fact!), I used to work mostly on High Voltage systems. These days I am Thermographic Specialist and I spend more time looking at electrical systems than I do touching them
I’m a Google user through and through, but I have many friends who use Apple. They both have their pros and cons, whatever works best for a person is the best device for them
Yeah, a proper ali/baro tile would be nice as I’ve seen a number of people asking for it. Would be mostly useless for me, as it’s pretty flat where I live. But a baro trend and alert would be handy for when I get back out sailing.
I’ve tried both the BaroTrend app from the Play Store and the one that’s on XDA and whilst both are good, they are also both lacking key features (and I find they hog a bit too much battery). -
@olymay most definitely if you sailing a Baro trend is the way to go.
I use mostly for weather forecasting and hiking.
I have a friend of mine who developed the best Alti/Barometer app ever and it’s available on the App Store https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/alti-barometer/id1481021960
I was a beta tester for months in months!
If only Suunto can learn one or two things out of this
Cheers

Yeah, super helpful when sailing - especially the long distance ocean stuff that I do.
I use mostly for weather forecasting and hiking.
For weather forecasting I use a mixture of:
- Met Office (brilliant for UK)
- Windy / Windfinder
- RainToday (sadly no longer available on the play store, but it’s available as an APK.) One of the best rain radars I’ve ever used.
I have a friend of mine who developed the best Alti/Barometer app ever and it’s available on the App Store https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/alti-barometer/id1481021960
That looks GREAT!! If you know the developer, maybe you could lean on them to develop it for Android and WearOS?
If it works as well as it looks then I for one would be happy to pay for itI was a beta tester for months in months!

@olymay oh mate this app works like a dream machine!
The developer is very experienced with Barometer apps.
He also recently developed an app for Davis weather rations owners called PWS. Unfortunately, I am nowhere near being a developer
He is based in the US! Long shot I am afraid.
Perhaps we can hook him with Suunto

Definitely worth dropping them a message to ask if they would develop for Android and WearOS
I would be happy to join you in a beta test, and I would be happy to pay for the app if it works as well as you say it does.
I’ve seen plenty of requests on these forums, on XDA, and on Facebook of people wanting a decent alti/baro app, so there should hopefully be enough of a market for him -
@olymay Hi mate, I was experimenting the last few days with airplane mode on & off.
During my sleep, I have sleep tracking on, HR and DND on.
It seems like when I am connected to my IPhone 11pro max overnight the watch lose about 12% battery.
Airplane mode turned on the battery only went down by 6% in six hours sleep.
This indicates that my Bluetooth connexion is the culprit. This result is also confirmed in my battery stats. Bluetooth being at the top with 17% consumption.
Do you have any idea how to correct this?
Many thanks
-
@optics-field-test some quick calcs:
You lose approx 12% battery overnight (I don’t know long you are sleeping so will assume 8hrs).
Therefore 12 / 8 = 1.5% loss per hourThat doesn’t sound to bad to me (for a WearOS device).
One thing I do differently to you is to put the watch into cinema mode overnight. This turns off the display and puts it into DnD mode. It doesn’t turn off bluetooth.
I don’t use an iPhone so I’m not able to offer any thoughts on settings for this ( @Brad_Olwin is an iPhone user who may be able to help?).
-
@olymay same here I also put it on Cinema mode including the rest but the Bluetooth seem to be heavy overnight. I sleep an average of 6h38
Last night 6h:11
Thanks

@olymay hi there
My Bluetooth continue to drain my battery it’s 26% usage. Number battery hugger
Anything you would recommend?
Thanks
-
@optics-field-test hello, curiosity … what phone do you have?
I may have solved a similar problem. -
@meazzas9 Hi, it’s an IPhone 11 Pro Max

Hi, sorry, I’m pretty much out of ideas now
I’m not a developer or anything to do with Suunto, I’m just an enthusiastic user like yourself.
It might be worth speaking to of the iPhone users to see if they can help? If all else fails, Suunto support are very good and helpful.
I hope you get it fixed
-
@olymay Thanks chap.
Update: I am not sure what’s happening but I had an update come through few days ago. something to do with Google I think.
Since, my Bluetooth is now the lowest battery consumption at 2% and my battery seem to be holding amazing. After a full charge and about three hours in to standby, my battery estimation is at 3 days.
Also, I think I left my Wifi by mistake on auto mode and I am starting to think that it could well be that my Bluetooth disconnecting from the phone is now being supported by the Wifi hence the lower Bluetooth consumption
Very strange
-
@binoworld-uk I have no idea what would cause that change but it’s GREAT NEWS!!
The update you mention is probably a Google Play update and these are fairly regular. If so I don’t see how it would affect anything to do with Bluetooth.
Maybe the wifi setting could be the answer? I leave my wifi setting on auto all of the time (it only uses it when the watch is on charge I believe), but maybe you could test it by leaving it as is for a few days to make sure all is good, and then turn the wifi off again to see if it reverts back to previous battery life?
Either way, I’m really happy for you
-
@binoworld-uk i had a similar problem with android, specifically Samung (A40 and A20S).
consumption also reached 19/20% due to bluetooth.
I tried to reset the phone, change it but the problem remained … restarting it seemed to go fine but after 2 days it returned as before.
Now for work I had to change phone (also for this problem) and my choice fell on Realme GT NEO2 - android.
It is now 10 days that it is always connected, monitoring always active and the battery lasts for 2 days (without particular activities), I put in airplane mode only at night, the average consumption of the BT is 2/3% on the whole charge.
Now it comes to my mind that Samsung has some problems with bluetooth connections, can it be so?
In your case, either you have installed some energy-intensive app or some Apple update that has upset the whole thing. -
Just done a battery test on my S7. 100% fully charged down to 5%.
No activities recorded (resting a sore achillies) so was perfect for checking regular battery consumption.
Settings:
AoD OFF
Power saver tilt to wake ON
Continuous HR ON
Sleep tracking ON
Bluetooth always ON
WiFi AUTO
Lots of notifications throughout the day
Cinema mode at night
App updates AUTO
Brightness AUTO
Solstice watch face
No third party apps installed
(If I’ve forgotten anything important please ask)Charged to 100% and removed from charger at 1100 GMT on Saturday 11th December.
Got the warning notification of 5% battery at 1742 on Monday 13th December.
Therefore, 100% to 5% took 54hrs and 42mins.MIGHTY IMPRESSED!!!
-
@olymay
Very good, similar what I get when I enable airplane and cinema mode at night. -
@olymay that’s a stellar result!!
I think mine could get to that result if I ever let it go down to 5%
I tend to top it up at around 30%
-
@jantikainen I didn’t notice any appreciable difference of turning on Aeroplane mode over night. And it’s one more toggle to turn on and off, so I never bother. Cinema mode puts it into do not disturb and turns the screen off, which is all I really want.
-
@binoworld-uk very similar to me, I tend to pop mine on charge when I shower and shave etc. and this is usually more than enough to keep it topped up. I try to cycle most electronics between 20% and 80%, but occasionally I like to do a full charge and discharge, as it helps the software stay calibrated. I don’t normally pay any attention to how long it takes, but as the watch was taken off the charger at exactly 1100 (was pure coincidence) I thought it would be dead easy to measure the battery life. And I was right
I’m happy to see that the battery life is as good as ever - and if anything is better than it ever has been
