@dimitrios-kanellopoulos thank you.
Do you mean, pressing the top button can toggle between endurance and performance? (before I start my activity, while waiting for GPS signal)You are right, I was probably using “endurance” unknowingly. Because the screen was quite dim and I could barely read at night.
I’ve checked that I selected “Performance” in “Battery Mode” because I wanted “max quality for logs”. Both “Basic Running” and my created sports mode customization are using “Performance”.
Now I’m playing with “custom” in “Battery Mode” which allows me to set GPS accuracy, Display timeout and selected what I require. I will try few more runs again and update. -
@lamp21 This is giving you a good overview of the settings

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos i did not have any issues with swims showing as swims in strava ️

Make sure the prestart color of the start button is green.
This is a mistake that a lot of new users seem to fall into, which points to a bad UX decision. I did that myself several times when I just got S9B. It is beyond me why Suunto keeps insisting on surfacing switching the power mode via a dedicated button that can be easily pressed unintentionally. In my opinion, changing the power mode is something that most users never need and remaining users need very rarely. I remember once I missed a start of a race because I accidentally pressed that button at a race start and the watch wanted me to calibrate the compass, and I couldn’t get out of that mode for more than a minute. I really hated Suunto at that moment.
And I don’t even mention that some users may be color blind.

@nickk I thought the readings were performed every 12 minutes, at least that was my guessing observing the watch and the data-point plotted in the HR graph available a the suunto app.
Does anyone know whether or not Suunto has a plan to allow 1 sec recording of HR (not SPO2, just HR)? I understand this may impact battery life.
The reason for the above is the following: every time I launch the widget that gives you the HR I have very high reading for 10-15 seconds and than the sensor lock on the proper reading and works as expected. What i found annoying is that, every time you manually read our HR the watch seem to add the reading to your data and so you have all those spikes in you daily HR plot

thanks @NickK for the LED kick in timing. I now have a better understanding of how this works.
@surfboomerang thanks, I’ve went thru the link, its for Suunto 9 baro i suppose and have an additional “Display in full-color mode”, Brightness %, vibration, bluetooth.
S9P dont have a feature to turn off sound in this menu.For the passed few days, I’ve played with the top button before i start my activity. Yes, it toggles to a different mode and the amount of battery % indicates which mode I’m currently using.
similarly to @sky-runner , after pressing the top button, I was immediately asked to calibrate my compass. I assume my compass was calibrated once before, and the watch should not ask me again.
yes, I have color blind and I do have difficulty looking at the color. I need to look at the screen for a longer time to determine the color.
I come from a garmin watch background and the green is fuller.The battery mode that I’m currently using is custom with “Best GPS”, so I notice its blue color at the “Start” button.
-
@lamp21 I have reported this issue with the battery modes and as @sky-runner said , I do think that’s not good UX

In my experience using S9B compass calibration is lost every time when magnetic charger is attached. I don’t know if that is the same with S9P, but based on your experience S9P may have the same issue.
-
@sky-runner yes same with S9P.

I encounter intermittent charging since the first time I got my watch. but I thought its a small issue and did not take notice.
what happened:
plugged the dongle to my watch to charge. from 18%. takes a few second but not immediately. watch beeps watch is “charging”
after a few minutes. the watch notifies me, “are you going for a training soon? please remember to charge your watch” at 20+%
charging stops.few seconds later, watch beeps. watch shows “charging” message. and this repeats.
at 60% right now, i saw this thread, to switch off the watch and try to charge again.
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/6866/s9p-did-not-charge-anymore-reboot-helped/11this did not help. from 60% to 61% charging stops. watch beeps, “charging”
61% to 62% repeat cycle.
62% to 67%. charging stops. watch beeps. “charging”
67% to 69% charging stops. watch beeps. “charging”
69% to 71% charging stops. watch beeps. “charging”
71% to 73% charging stops. watch beeps. “charging”
73% to 76% charging stops. watch beeps. “charging”the cycle stops.
I realise when the battery is reaching towards 100%, I dont have anymore beeps. and I’m now with 100% battery as i type.is my dongle having issue? I dont have a friend with a same watch to test this.
I understand that this watch takes about 1 hour to charge fully. but during 1 hour, so many stops and beeps happen at the same time. probably about 10 over beeps if I really notice it.
-
@lamp21 interesting. Just happened now?
-
@lamp21
This looks like a connection/disconnection issue
Maybe it’s due to the cable or the dongle or the pc (is it a pc right ? ) sometimes related to some stand-by featureyou should try a different cable, than maybe a different source (another pc, ac brick)
-
This is a cable magnet issue. I have that with some old cable.
I would ask for a cable replacement support.
-
@isazi nope, since day 1. just that I thought it not a concern. but realised it is after 2 months of use. I got this watch from Amazon, will check out how the replacement works.

update
After sending my watch + cable for servicing at my local service centre, I received a new cable.I had this issue once again, charging stop and charge. Happened 2 times on my charge when I got my watch back. start charging from 20% to 100%.
1 week later after draining, I charge my watch and it did happen 1 time on my charge, from 40% to 91%.
I will continue to monitor this.
