Data Fields explanation
-
I’m setting up some custom sport in my Suunto app but i don’t understand the meaning of some data filed, names (in italian) are very similar and i can’t test each data field starting an activity to understand it! Isn’t there any “guide” that explain every single data field?
-
@renton82 there definitely is one:

@dmytro Suunto app activity data field are not explained here…
-
Apparently there is no such guide with detailed explanation per-field. Some are trivial to understand but others are hard to imagine working in practice. I don’t know how does the interface look like with Italian but in Polish, there’s plenty of abbreviations on some fields which don’t help.
I wish there was a graphical interface or explanation on how each field in each group works - instead of just a plain, long dropdown.
Perhaps we should create such manual and opensource it?
-
@renton82 you’re right! I thought it was in the manual. If you have any particular icon you don’t understand, you could just ask in the forum.
-
@łukasz-szmigiel There are too many abbreviation also for italian language a guide will help us a lot!
-
@renton82 some are trappable. So tap them
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos Sorry but i don’t understand… for example what does it mean “And. media giro” and "Andad med. int.? What is the difference between “giro” and “intervallo”?
-
@renton82 do you mind switching to English first maybe?
-
@renton82 some fields are interval related and others loop related. If you wish to build a custom profile for looping (manual or automatic) or intervals.
-
@renton82 andatura media giro (lap average pace I believe), and andatura media intervallo (interval average pace I also believe).
-
@dimitrios-kanellopoulos tappable? Like with extra description? Where?
-
@łukasz-szmigiel In iOS activity records a data field with a blue triangle in the top right corner (e.g., PTE, TSS, EPOC, Recovery) will throw up an explanation when tapped. Perhaps that’s what DK has in mind (Androidly, of course).
A bit of a convoluted process but, if Suunto don’t fork up a list, I guess someone could load up sports modes systematically and check. FWIW, iOS Fields that don’t have triangles include: Distance, Duration, Highest point, Lowest point, Laughs, Ascent, Ascent time, Descent, Descent time, Temperature, Avg Speed, Max speed, Calories, Smell, Steps, and Avg pace.
-
@fenr1r ah I see. I was thinking maybe I’m missing something in custom sports creation screens.
-
-
@renton82 that’s the thing, I sadly don’t know Italian so I couldn’t help you out. What I meant is to change app language in the settings so more people could be of help. But I guess you already got explanation from others, right?
-
Hm maybe a spreadsheet in gdocs would be enough for an open sourced list of all the fields with the possibility to translate fields in each column and an explanation in English (description)? I don’t feel like creating a site for that, getting a domain etc.

@dmytro i can’t change suunto app language per se, i have to change all the phone language…
