Fitness level instructions not working.
-
@tomas5 it’s. It suuntos fault since they use the algos provided by first beat. Maybe a s+ feature could be developed though to override estimations from firstbeat.
-
@tomas5 also make sure that you hikes/walks include some hr variation i.e. not just a constant walk at 110 bpm.
-
@дима-мельниченко thanks i will try that.
-
Today i did 8km easy hike. With different HR as there was ascent/descent and flat parts. Instructions still want to do 15 minutes walk to start working.
-
@tomas5 I would suggest to do a few more activities, also note that there are two sports profiles hiking and trekking, latter doesn’t have vO2max values.
Here’s a link to another thread, where someone needed a time to get those metrics up and running:
https://forum.suunto.com/topic/4313/suunto-9-fitness-level-doesn-t-work/15?_=1617635557076Hope you get yours soon!
-
@tomas5 If you can do an easy run without injury or hurting yourself, it would probably help as well. Or a steep hike to get HR up.
-
I will give it a time. I do hikes so it should work. Do you know what is name for field to display VO2Max while hike? I don’t see this value in configuration of sports mode in suunto app. Is this value possible to display while hiking?
-
@tomas5 Record the activity as a trail run, then it will apply to VO2Max, don’t record as a hike.

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos just feedback for suunto. Since i bought watch, it is few months now. I did around 60km of hiking excercise and few times basic walk excercise (10km). All of it with whr enabled. Still no fitness level instructions. I am still recomended by watch to do at least 15 min. of running or walking. I did hard reset about 2-3 hikes ago. Still no difference.
-
@tomas5 when you do hard reset the past is not taken into account anymore.
-
@isazi yes i know, i did’t hard reset partly because after 40km it still didn’t work at all. And since hard reset it is again around 20km and again not working. It says do at least 15 minutes. I did much much more than 15 minuts but no luck. Didn’t try running because of knee, but it is not required. I will try hike today with latest firmware since there was update around 10 days ago and i didn’t do any hike after.
-
@tomas5 I started with walking last year in summer with a S9B and did a lot of walks (since I was too heavy back then and suffered from knee pain ) and I remember that the fitness level didnt`t show up until I actually “run” with the S9B using a running profile (the yellow ones). This running was not much faster than when I was walking really fast. So perhaps you just try to choose a running profile and walk / hike as fast as you can and see if it works then? Afterwards every walk (even short ones) showed an fitness level.
-
@chrisa I do not know the exact requirements of the Firstbeat algorithm, but it is much easier to get the first estimate running than walking. After you get the first, then it is computed also for running/walking activities.
-
@isazi well today first time after hike it started to work finally. Maybe latest firmware improved something because it is my first hike with latest firmware.
-
@isazi yes, thats what I meant Did about 10 walks and no fitness level - then first run (which was actually not very much faster than walkin back at that time ) and after this one run fitnesss leve was shown
