Suunto app and Ambit3 and MGRS
-
When I save a POI on the app and synch the watch, it’s supposed to save that POI on the watch correct?
Am I able to change the POI coordinate system on the on the App to MGRS instead of lat long?
Thank you much…

Anyone

@carlos0311 to my knowledge lat/lon in decimal degrees is the only format available in the app. Maybe in the future it will match the format a user selected in the watch. But who knows…

Sorry, but there is no saving of that POI - Suunto App does not support POI transfer to Ambit3.
You can only add your POIs through Movescount.com and sync those to watch with Suuntolink + cable. And Movescount only takes lat/lon.

@margusl ok. Thank you. I’ve been playing with it all day. I just downloaded suunto link and linked it to movescount. I’m having buyers remorse since I can’t easily add MGRS grids threw the app or movescount. I should of just gone with option 1, Garmin 601…️

If you have a list of MGRS points, there are batch converters that will help with your data entry a bit - http://legallandconverter.com/mgrsbatch.html
Or if you are willing to fiddle with some javascript and your browser’s developer tools, I have snippet for importing list of points in GeoJSON to Movescount that may (or may not … ) work as a starting point to import your own list - https://gist.github.com/marguslt/3bc9b264bf4abd31e87e872f4550c4c2#file-mc-poi-from-geojson-jsBTW, if you need to enter just few points in the field and have set your Ambit’s position format to MGRS , entering MGRS coordinates directly through watch menu might also work for you, - https://www.suunto.com/Support/Product-support/suunto_ambit3_peak/suunto_ambit3_peak/features/points-of-interest/#25.2 [DEFINE @ Adding your location as a POI] , though this gets bit more fiddly once your coordinates are north of ~ 60°N / south of ~ 60°S .And once your point’s latitude is getting close to 80° , entry through watch menu becomes close to unusable.

@carlos0311 Just in case POI sync comes to Ambit3 and you still have yours (or another Suunto), please vote here for multi-format POI creation/editing in the App.

@margusl thank you. I will try the converter. Are there any Suunto reps that frequent here? I’ve tried to email suunto but I only see phone numbers. I’ve called and the reps that answer supposedly take notes and pass on the request to be able to plot and synch with the app, but I’m not holding my breath.
