Sounds like one wants a Pentium again.

Maybe an s 10 with the emulation of ambit software ?

              @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos

I need to run VMs to keep half factories going, not a bad idea to run VM legacy Suunto watches on S10 😁

If we have dosbox, why not ambitBox?

Absolutely! I would totally give up any number of features on the S9 related to training, etc if a second watch/os/firmware/model was necessary to produce those features and keep the watch performing up to Suunto internal benchmarks. Don’t know that I would want it to be an Ambit3 Vertical or Traverse rehash, both had pretty meh GPS accuracy and poor battery life. But yea, something along those lines.

My dream watch doesn’t need a HR monitor. When I had my SSWHR Baro, I frequently didn’t keep it tight enough while hiking/backpacking for it to get a good read anyway.

My dream watch core features would be the following…

                  1. Good to Great GPS for navigation accuracy. If it can do it w/ less accuracy fine, but every GPS watch that I’m aware of requires the watch to go into ‘best-ish’ mode when navigating.
                  2. POI/Waypoint navigation as a crow flies
                  3. POI/Waypoint navigation ‘on route’
                  4. Route navigation
                  5. Elevation profile and navigation (of the route)
                  6. Elevation profile and navigation (as a crow flies)
                  7. Altimeter, Barometer, and Storm Alarm
                  8. Bluetooth POI and route mgmt from my phone w/ onboard maps (no cellular connection required)
                  9. Typical ETA/ETE calculations when navigating
                  10. Sunrise/Sunset
                  11. Compass with bearing lock
                  12. Battery life on the order of an A3P or Coros, or better if we are wishing big and asking for something that’s not gonna happen 😉

I’m sure I’ve forgotten some things if I sat here and pondered longer, but I can most likely take or leave almost everything else. That includes smartphone features, notifications, etc.

I have the same wishlist! I just want a rugged outdoor watch with a perfectly readable screen.

OHR sensor is just useless, at least for me. 50/50 change of measuringa 50bpm instead of 140bpm… just not reliable and for training I always wear a chest HR belt.

But I guess suunto is more and more moving towards ultratrailrunner with colorful dynafit* clothing and strays further away from the outdoor community. IMHO

                  • nothing against them, I also love to trailrun etc.

So everything above is already available on the S9 baro, some requiring you use SuuntoPlus. The exception is SA does not have onboard maps yet and to load routes into the watch with no cellular the route must be in the route list. Battery life is already better than A3P unless you use the least frequent GPS fix in the A3P where the tracks are very bad. So only a few on your wish list are not there.
I’ve edited the quotation showing in Bold what is available on the S9 and italics for SuuntoPlus.

@brad_olwin Sunrise and set only when you use the right watchface
                      Stormalarm is not reliable
                      Etc

                      So on paper yes, but…

I am a scientist so I would like to clarify the facts here. If you do not like the way they are implemented, fine you should use that as your comment. However, the vast majority of what you copied is already there.

                        1. Not True, Sunrise and Sunset are available as fields in a Custom Sport mode, so Sunrise/Sunset is available on watch faces and during exercise.

                        2. Not true, the Storm Alarm is reliable, what may not be reliable is the storm may come without a sufficient drop in air pressure. I have had many Storm Alerts and they work well. Moreover, you can set the Weather SuuntoPlus and watch the barometric pressure during your exercise. As good as it is on paper!

I am also a scientist so I have to clarify that I can only represent my experience (it might not be applicable for everyone):

                          1. Yes during an activity, you can see sunrise and sunset.
But I want to see it during the day without using those two watchfaces.

                          2. The storm alarm went off a couple of times during the night, while I was sleeping at home in my bed. The weather was clear and no storm was coming the next couples days.
                            So i deactivated

But for sure my “hating” is really subjektiv. One reason might be that I am missing the cool outdoor looks or detailed data analysis website like Garmin Connect etc. Or even the fact, that the old a3p screen was easier to read.

@theguyfromthesummit The storm alarm will go off when the pressure drops sufficiently. I believe that do not disturb will turn that off but I am not totally sure. Mine will go off a day or two before storms as we have major fronts come through that drop the air pressure. I should add that my two S9 Baros and my A3P ALL simultaneously Storm Alarm at home. At least I know they are consistent:)

I would argue for the Sunrise/Sunset it is there and the only watch that you can customize the extent you want for this is the S7. If you argue that the watch faces on the S9 have no ability to customize, I am in total agreement on this and there are posts long ago asking for this. I suspect it will never happen. For example, a number of the S9 watch faces duplicate data, the Hero face has a graphical display of battery charge and a battery charge indicator as well. I do not understand the logic in this but…it is not going to change, unfortunately.
