Hi! I am a 32 year old male in fit condition. For some reason my suunto 5 gives a health age of 63. I do sport 5-6 days a week wherefrom 3 are hikes of 5-6km and occasionally 1 time a week 3-4x100m uphill run (max speed) + 2 times gym a week. So if i would be out of shape I wouldnt be able to do this much sport. What is wrong?

@seboey I had the same question a few weeks ago. My S9 measured VO2max level is usually considered as ‘Fair’ if I look at for instance Finnish Ministry of Health tables.

However, Suunto is using Firstbeat algorithms and their tables are not so kind. Someone answered me this:

AFAIK Suunto uses Firstbeat algorithms in S9 for measuring VO2max, here their reference on Fitness levels

@seboey Make sure your heart rate zones (and the rest of your body metrics) are correctly entered and that your heart rate is accurately measured during the activity.

And the results get more accurate over time when your watch gathers more data.

            I’m no longer considered 79, now my S9 thinks I am 74! 🙄

I would also add that hiking/walking activities will probably spoil vo2max measurements, as in former altitude gain isn’t taken into account and in the later hr doesn’t change that much.

Everything others said, plus the VO2max is really running centric. If running, especially endurance, is not your thing, don’t really pay attention to the numbers.
