S7 on its way which signals my return to Suunto after a little journey around the houses via a couple of other watches.

The question I have is, can I just use 10second sampling and FusedSpeed from day one, or does the watch benefit from learning how I run on some varied 1second runs first?? (similar to how an Apple Watch benefits from a calibration against 20mins of GPS tracked running before its real time interpretation of motion data becomes more accurate).

Basically if I can help it I don’t want to get used to nice 1second sampling and then have to opt to switch to 10seconds on longer efforts, I’d like to just whack it on 10secs and not be all that bothered if the track looks a bit wonky (as long as the distance and time is good and pace is accurate during the run, I don’t really care if the track doesn’t show me accurate to the nearest millimetre).

@Nigel-Taylor-0 pretty much just leave it on the fused. Occasionally there may be the odd hiccup (like any GPS watch - normally due to some obstruction) but otherwise I find it is pretty accurate. While not always on the correct side of a two way road, it will always be along the road, which is more than good enough for me.

If you are only doing a couple of hours of tracking activity, you can leave in best, as the additional draw isn’t significantly that more. If I remember correctly its about an additional 3 hours of extra battery life i.e. 15 extended to 18. Bigger difference is probably on whether connected to phone or not.

@Nigel-Taylor-0 The 10s track and 1s track are virtually indistinguishable. I see no issues just using 10s tracking. The only times I use 1s are for interval running or biking ( unless going long).
