Started with the Ambit 1, as fit my needs then A2 came and had mini apps and other improvements so I took the plunge…When the A3 came out I needed clean underwear and a box of tissues…Just had to have it… The Ambits have always fit my needs perfectly and as yet no other Suunto watch or other brands has come close to being as good for me… Even had several Android wear watches(sony smartwatch 3 etc) due my time with Ambits but they just wasn’t as good and never felt they could handle the punishment I would give them.
Had tried several other brands before the ambit… And just before the Ambit I was using a Suunto Vector(still works and in the draw) just hard to beat The Ambits…I have tried using a stick, axe, explosives just won’t die lol…PERFECT WATCH.

I actually wish I’d gone with the A3P rather than SU as I never use the touch screen and actually find it annoying that a number of the useful screens such as temp need you to swipe right as they aren’t available on the buttons alone! If POI’s do arrive as promised before MC becomes dead then the SU has a stay of execution but I think that ultimately the Garmin Instinct Solar looks to be the closest watch currently available to what I want.
-
@sebchastang while I agree that extensibility is important (that what I don’t like about Polar or Coros) but I also checked on Apps today, just with different sorting http://www.movescount.com/apps#sorting=6 - and it says that the most popular app has only 336 likes. It’s over all lifetime of the apps, of course it’s inconclusive data, but I think it’s safe to say that out of hundreds of thousands Ambit users only a fraction are using Apps extensively. So I think from business standpoint I see it’s quite clear why it’s not prioritized.

You don’t have to swipe on any screens in SU. Buttons and tap is always enough.

Okay, sorry, it’s a tap (on a tiny 2.5mm radius icon) rather than a swipe. But still, temperature is not available with buttons, you need to use the screen. And with gloves that’s not practical.

@Ennoch The poor old SU does indeed suck in the wild compared to its predecessors and, now, its successor. The Instinct Solar sort of seems the business except … and I know this seems shallow, considering I want the watch for the outdoors … it looks like some Cronenbergian G-Shock and vintage Casio hybrid. Can’t look at it. Which is sub-optimal, in a watch.
-
@pavel-samokha Sure, it’s not used by every Ambit owner, but as it is a feature and a possibility offered by the watch (to use custom apps in sports mode), I don’t see any reason to remove it, and no reason to not sync recorded data anymore with Suunto app. When you configure a sport mode with a suunto apps, you can tick a checkbox to enable data logging. Even with the transition, you are still supposed to be able to view those logs.

I do not miss MC at all, since all my historical moves are in SA, plus I have Strava and QS. I love that I can configure the watch via my mobile phone and being completely independent of a computer! You are out on a trip, want to change the set-up? Easy!
It was the same possible with Movescount app soooo… no change here
-
@Ennoch you can tap on screen in any place, not only icon. As with gloves - you’re right, yeah.

I will miss tags! RIP ~450 tags.
@Brad_Olwin can’t agree more. The bigger part of my analytical work is going to trash

@Kuba-Sarata For a lot of functions (possibly only the ones that couldn’t also be changed on the watch) you do need a computer with MC App: it’s the server at the other end of the data connection you also require for that set-up change. SA does more settings changes to the watch “independently” in that sense.

We are waiting for your YouTube series in which you try to kill wild Ambits.
-
@sebchastang As far as I understand (I may be wrong) it’s not “removing Mini Apps” it’s rather “Saving data generated by Mini Apps is not supported by Suunto App”.

I believe the Traverse has a Sport Mode for that.

MC app you could do far more on the ambits SA you can do nothing
-
@Fenr1r You’re right but not with the Ambits

@Kuba-Sarata @lohtse So long as you have a data connection. If not, you can actually do at least one more thing with an A3 and SA than with MC. You’re screwed on setup, routes, etc., with either app but (as I understand it) you can effectively offload Moves to SA. On a long, multi-day trek, that might save your records before the A3 starts overwriting them for lack of memory space.
