What is the next step with Ambit2 and Movescount.com?
-
Since today I get the hint to the Suunto App when I log in to Movescount.com.
As far as I could read on Suunto, the Suunto app for an Ambit2 is only suitable for firmware updates.Suunto has already written that Movescount.com is kept for the Ambit2 in order to be able to further configure the watch, program apps and push them onto the watch.
But that was probably just a hoax. Why doesn’t Suuntu simply provide an offline tool that enables everything offline that can only be done online through Movescount.com?
I was always bothered by the fact that I had to push my moves into the Suunto cloud, and also the app programming and configuration of the watch only works online.
Now you have the shit that Suunto will probably just turn off the online functionality!
With an offline program, the buyer of such an expensive watch could have been spared this dependency, and he could continue using the watch without Movescount.com.I would like to continue using my Ambit2 without any restrictions, because it brings everything I need!

@suolaf easy…too much work for an eol product.
They had to build it for windows and Mac…
Years ago there was this petition and nothing happened, so I guess it won’t be now.
https://www.change.org/p/suunto-suunto-give-customers-a-way-to-fully-use-their-watch-offline -
I still use the watch at least four times a week for my sports and scientific activities, and program evaluation programs for the various sensors (Foot Pod Mini, HR Belt, GPS, etc.). For me the watch is far from being EOL.
I have been browsing the Suunto site for several hours now and have found the following pages:
https://www.suunto.com/de-de/Support/faq-articles/transition/wie-nutze-ich-die-suunto-dienste-mit-ambit/
and
https://www.suunto.com/de-de/Support/faq-articles/transition/how-do-i-sync-exercises-from-my-ambit-12-with-suuntolink-to-the-suunto-app/
and
https://www.suunto.com/de-de/Support/faq-articles/transition/wie-erstelle-ich-neue-sportmodi-und-routen-fur-ambit-1-2-3-und-traverse/It seems that you now need a smartphone to install this Suunto app.
Why do I need a smartphone to configure my watch when I still log in to Movescount.com via PC/Mac?
It couldn’t be more complicated, or have I misunderstood something?
Besides, I only have a service smartphone, and I am not allowed to install apps on it Personally, I only own a simple mobile phone. -
@suolaf so I guess you need to make an account on the Suunto App to have everything working. Cannot you find a friend to let you install the app on his/her phone, create an account, then delete it?
I know this is not a real solution, but it may work if you just need to create an account.

@suolaf Sadly you are about to join the ranks of Suunto does not care about you… Long have the days of loyalty gone… Like Ambit 3 and traverse users you will suddenly find your perfectly good and functioning watch will nolonger have all it’s abilities and data available, effectively being dumned down… Movescount which is perfectly fine and works as a web interface and Movescount app which works perfectly on older phones etc is being given the boot for the new all lacking all disfunctional Suunto app… Yet some how you will be expected to see this as a welcome transition… Even though it has minimal functionality for ambits and traverses. I don’t see why Suunto could not keep movescount and I don’t see why they could not have released a Windows application with ALL themovescount functions so those who have older watches could continue using them to the fullest…
But hey we are only users and we know nothing of what we want even though we bought the watch that fits our needs.

@lohtse I understand you are PISSED, but could you sometimes try to help others instead of crying? Or just shut up

Hi isazi,
Loss of data (from custom Suunto apps : http://www.movescount.com/apps#) is so impacting for many of Ambit/Travers users, so it’s important for us to complain about this to be heard.
We are not against evolution and I think Suunto app could be a good option if all data (including custom Suunto apps) were synced and displayed in the graph.
Moreover, it is so much comfortable to use a computer to view / analyse datas, graph, and create new routes.
Mobile phones can’t replace computers. We can accept evolution as Mobile phones usage is important nowdays but we can’t accept a loss of data.
-
@sebchastang you can complain, but replying in every post not to answer the OP, or help him/her, but just to complain is annoying to other users. You are not talking with Suunto, you are talking with Suunto users here.

If you don’t contact suunto support directly, this is useless.
As any brand, they should be monitoring their emails regarding complains, so do it. -

I understand that it’s a bit boring for other users, but I think my answer is linked with the last sentence of the OP “I would like to continue using my Ambit2 without any restrictions, because it brings everything I need!”. By my post, I just agree this quote and answer suolaf that he is not the only one in this situation and we are all expecting solutions.
This forum is hosted by Suunto and I guess (as it use to be with other brands) Suunto sometimes takes a look to this forum to be aware of the most relevant thread / issues / complain, …
@André-Faria : I have already contacted Suunto, no later than last week, but the answer is always the same : “Please wait” or “bug correction is in progress” (regarding elevation issue with route creation on movescount.com raised more than 6 months ago).
Sorry again, I am not here to disturb in any way, I just write my feedback on Suunto app issues and ask for workaround to keep on using my watch.

You had luck, I didn’t get any answer.
But I will keep on trying. -

“Pissed” is not quite as strong as I feel… As to my response here, It was a heads up as OP needed to understand what is happening…
As to shutting up… Oh really so we should all shut up about the Suunto app being not fit for our Ambits etc or the continuing lack of responses from Suunto!!! So how does suunto get the message then??? they are not listening when you email them or phone them!!! There are people on this forum who are linked to/work for Suunto who can inform them of the issues and anger so it is the only place left where our voices may be heard… Stay quiet or SHUTTING UP means nothing gets changed… So NO I will not SHUT UP!

@lohtse again, replying in every topic to just say nothing (I mean, the ratio of information per words in your messages is very low, you just scream and cry and insult) is not considered good behavior in public forums. You made your voice pretty clear already.
And there are probably 2 (3?) people working for Suunto in the whole forum, so you mostly reply to users asking questions on how to do something with your ramblings.
Wait, let me write something IN UPPER CASE so you are happy.

You had luck, I didn’t get any answer.
But I will keep on trying. As I told in another topic, after two emails and facebook chat and some weeks of waiting they answer me, in a very polite and open way.
At least it felt they are aware of the complaints and working on it."Digital services do evolve, by their very nature. It’s not really a matter of business, it’s a matter of being able to ensure that we stay up to date with the changes and trends of the digital world, and work to offer an overall better experience to the whole of our community and the majority of our users, in the present and in the future.
The features Suunto app has now and will have in the future are based on user feedback from the majority of our users.
We worked to make sure that, even with the inevitable changes that evolving digital demands require to our services, customers with Ambit, Ambit2 and Ambit3 watches could continue to use their trusted devices. We also know, though, that many people want to follow the developments of digital services and technology, and might be interested in upgrading to a newer device: for them, and in additions to our efforts enabling the use of older models, we have created the loyalty offer.
As for the issue with ascent and descent on Movescount is not due to any change on our part - Mapbox (the map provider) changed their API for access to data, and this broke the altitude element (actually, to be thorough, the change broke the entire map integration. To recover it, a quick fix was found that allowed us to connect to Mapbox to draw routes but damaged the altitude element). Considering that the web service - as a device manager for Ambit, Ambit2, Ambit3 and Traverse - is here to stay, our team is currently trying to find out what the best solution for this is. It’s taking longer than we would like and hoped to deliver."
from further conversation
“we really tracked the use of features on our products, and tried to deliver what was most used and important.”For me it was a good communication.
Everyone on industry is struggling, we are getting delays, people sick, confinement, so lets calm and hope for the best.
It is important to raise voices, but also to provide valuable feedback and understand the other side, so communication can be efficient.
