Wishlist for a future Suunto 7 firmware

I testet the navigation from the last update on a new route today. I really like the map based navigation! This being a new route with lot’s of intersections, I had to tilt the watch to wake the navigation screen a lot. The screen takes a sec to wake and the navigation another sec to update. Many times I just needed to check that the route still was following the trail I was on and not turning to another trail in an intersection. For checking this, a simple navigation screen without map data like the one on the Suunto 5 or 9 would do. So to make a long story short, my wish for a future update is a simple navigation screen running on the battery saving co-processor. And maybe a touch of the screen could wake up the navigation with full mapdata.

The grass is always greener. Read on down a bit from there for a hybrid view.

@aeroild I also quite like the Suunto 9 bearing direction screen; and sometimes I do think that we need what you describe, however I don’t think it would work on the low power processer.
I do think you can assist yourself by adding lots of waypoints/cross road/reference points etc can really help (also with off route notification coming sooner) as at least you get a warning ahead of any possible change in reoute, and perhaps don’t add them where you need to go straight.
If they allowed our own description to show that would solve a lot of our problem as you could use a code or just say left turn, straight through, left fork etc and would effectively provide what you need without making any major changes.

@aeroild excelent idea!!

@Jamie-BG I’m not a engineer or software developer so I don’t really have a clue. However, the watch is already tracking the positioning data and displaying such info as speed, time and distance in real time, so I don’t see why displaying a line and a breadcrumb trail would be that much more demanding on the coprocessor.
-
@aeroild - would have to check some of this. I know that map view it isn’t running on the low power core processor. Would need to check when in the data screen mode, but I have a feeling that when you get a waypoint notification it is waking the screen up out of its power save mode (which I could have misunderstood, but I think that means it is boosting out of low power core into normal cores). Which makes sense as more power etc is need to display the additional data the notification tag provides, rather than just changing some basic digital numbers like a digital watch…
-
@Jamie-BG I agree, a waypoint notification would wake up the main processor. Similar to when the Suunto 7 displays autolap info, then the watch uses the main processor. Displaying just the breadcrumb trail and the route will hopefully just require the coprocessor and not use anymore battery than the always-on sport display.

I would really like to see date in the basic black watch-face which appears with power saver tilt ON, or some kind of possibility to choose what is displayed in those two small circles (battery should be just fine in the upper part of display maybe ?)
-
@Zab_55 loads of watch faces allow this. Go in and adjust features of watch face.
Long press watch face, then press blue cog (if no blue cog available watch face can’t be adjusted). Settings will come up. Add/adjust complications to choose how many/what comes up. Adjust ambient screen (if available) - minimal normally means no complications, with full having dimmed complications in ambient mode.

Suunto tracking app on the watch weight training needs a major uplift as all it does is time and HR. Come on suunto, how about making something like what Google fit provides: automatic exercise detection picking up curls, sit ups, press Up etc with ability to change activity (if it gets it wrong), auto counting of reps and sets (with option to adjust rep count), ability to add weight lifting for each set, an adjustable rest timer with option to skip, ability to also manually enter a session, duration and HR monitoring in background with calorie used, epoc, PTE and recovery.

@Jamie-BG oh Gosh, how blind I am. I was wondering if I should write it here, because it must be somewhere in settings but I didn’t see it Thank you !

Hello:
As far as I’ve seen:
-To use bluetooth sensors (like BikePod, Garmin BSCM Gen3. Wahoo HR…) -
@Fly-Riviera Adding: Heart Rate visual at Default Sphere. (damm, that does even an Amazfit Bip Lite, less than 50$!!!)

Heart Rate visual at Default Sphere
Sorry - you have really lost me? What does heart rate visual at default sphere mean - care to explain?
I know that the S7 does active HR zones on main tracking screen. You can also use the HR tile to take a HR reading at any time / and or go into google fit to get a reading at any time. You can also set Google fit to take 24/7HR reading which can then be viewed in tile or google fit.

@Jamie-BG please, let me check! It’s our new sportwatch! Is there a livetrack / emergency feature at Suunto 7/app?
-
I would like to see the watch being able to connect to turbo trainers. Or an app to connect to them.
-
I would like to see the ability to chose and add apps to the watch through the Google play store on the phone rather than on the watch. This will save battery life on the watch.
-
@meyton89 this would be a step back to Android Wear 1.0 and has nothing to do with Suunto.
Meanwhile WearOS apps cannot be installed on the phone. The only way is to install these apps via the PlayStore on the watch.
And usually this will happen at home with a wireless connection and the possibility to use the charger.
-
@Fly-Riviera no and the ones on the play store are very manual too
