Feedback Export GPS File

@Fenr1r I dont get it, there is GPX for routes support in the app. (export)
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos We might be running into terminology confusion here. I was answering (conceptually)
why do you need a GPX over a FIT file?
Otherwise, does the app export watch-recorded track GPXes as well as app-created routes? That seems to be one of the OP’s requirements.
-
@Fenr1r The app exports:
GPX:
- Workouts as routes
- Routes created in the app
FIT:
- Workouts
Now I do understand that one would want a workout as GPX but GPX is a very very bad format for workouts. I can debate in detail over this, but mainly it misses lot of the data, pauses, etc, let aside that is TreeBased format (XML) that well, does not fit with activity data. For example take a tunnel. A tunnel can have HR data, altitude data but no GPS data. GPX files do not play well with that.
Opinion wise (personal) I would avoid GPX files for transferring any data between services, except if that is a route.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I bow to your knowledge of workout/activity formats but I think the OP wants track records (i.e., the gpx containing a limited list of relative time-stamped sat-fixes [pref 3D] with header containing start time) so HR data and mid-tunnel altitude aren’t necessarily necessary. Using the watch in this way values location as currency, not biological monitoring. Pauses may be of less (if any) significance.

I just wanted to chime in as I am unable to export my last workout to GPX format. I’ve read all your comments and the pros vs. the cons. I do need the option to save my workouts/moves as *.GPX not just as *FIT.
In the three dots (…) dialog I have the
Edit
Save Route
Export as FIT file
Canceloptions available.
I was able to export the move as *.FIT, however, when I tried to import it in Movescount, I got this error message:
@2nd, you stated in other comments that choosing the Save option, one would be able to save it as a *.GPX file. After confirming the Save, by pressing the DONE button, I am shown another dialog to enter the route’s name, but by choosing to SAVE I did NOT get another dialog to browse to the save location and to save the file.
No other file was created on my iphone (iphone 7 ios 13.6), Suunto app v.1.40.0

@kukubau after you save the route, you can press “share” and download the GPX. At least it works on Android.
-
Thanks, but this option is missing on ios and looks like an ios bug.
-
@kukubau
You can try with online tool, like: -
@kukubau I am sure it’s not missing :-d
-
@kukubau It is not missing, use the share button to share a link to the activity, from the link you can download a gpx file.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos For me it’s missing. Below are consecutive screenshots, trying all options.
-
@kukubau that’s your activity though. Did you make a route out of it first?
-
@kukubau create a route , name it
Go to your routes -> share -> copy link (has download for the GPX)

You didn’t understand my issue. I want to export my previous activity to *.GPX format from within the Suunto app (like saving the *.FIT file) as I was able to do from Movescount due to the fact that is no SuuntoLink web based application and Movescount will be discontinued.
Having the *.FIT save option available, it is a matter of common sense, for the development team to offer the user the option to save the activity to a generally accepted format like *.GPX.

It defies the purpose.

@sartoric
Yes, that’s my problem and no this is not the wrong thread. -
Why would I want to create a new route to copy an already performed activity to be able to save it as *.GPX?!? This is user unfriendly and very counter intuitive.
On the other hand, route creation has its purpose, I will not deny it. -
@kukubau
Once you are here
you should save your “My route” and once saved, you may have the option to Share this “My route” route.
And this sharing will give you a link to download GPX.
Workout --> Saveto Route --> Share saved route = GPX -

Yes, that’s my problem and no this is not the wrong thread.well … we could discuss about it
the OP asked for Feedback Export GPS File maybe a typo maybe not, but the OP never replied
and then things become FIT vs GPX for activity
and @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos said

FIT:Workouts
In fact you cannot export GPX for an activity , only FIT files

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos
Thank you for your help.I was a big Suunto fan and I’ve praised Suunto sport watches to everyone that was planning on buying a sport/smart watch. Sadly, this moment is the moment when I will leave Suunto for good and do my business elsewhere.
Suunto, you have become such a Disappointment.
