Altitude bug?
-
Strange. Why does the watch register minimum and maximum altitude, but 0 ascent and descent?
-
is this directly transfer from the watch to Suunto app or are you using a third party service?
I.e in iOS rungap when sends the files it does it using gpx format and losing the ascend/descend values…
-
@Bulkan directly from watch to app.
Watch is showing the exact same data.
That’s why I’m posting this in the watch section of the forum, not in the app section…
-
@Egika What should the ascent be for that exercise?
-
@Brad_Olwin as you can see from the chart in the screenshot, altitude went from 0 to 20m and back down to 8m. So I would expect to see 20m ascent and 12m descent (while in reality I arrived at the same position where I started - but that’s a diffent issue).

Ok. I see.
I asume in QS the data is the same than in Suunto app. Is strange, the barometer should count that ascend and descend according to the graph. I have a really flat route here with +9 meters I will try with the s7 and s9 at the same time.
-
Was this anyone off or you never get ascent/descent?
-
@isazi so far a one off. Got nice values yesterday when paddling on an absolutely flat lake. (But that’s kind of normal and I’m already used to water sports in Suunto never defaulting to a baro mode…)

Part of the altitude increase looks like FusedAlti activating. You were below 0m when you started. That is why I asked.
-
@Egika Is that also the case with the 9 (for most sports it should be baro afaik and tested)
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos you mean the baro default for water sports? Yes, also the case for S9. I have messaged you about it last year quite a few times. If I recall correctly, even when set in MC to baro, the watch is still recording altitude changes - where you would expect to see altitude as a flat line (if I understand “baro only” correctly)

As far as I have seen FusedAlti working, it has never gradually changed the recorded altitude, but always applied an offset to the whole altitude data set (at least for short recordings, where pressure does not change much during the activity…)
I mean FusedAlti is sampling data as long until it is satisfied with accuracy and has enough data points for a GPS altitude correction. Then this correction is applied to the whole data set (even elapsed data).
SA had a bug before, where you could see the jump in altitude, when FusedAlti kicked in (and where elapsed data was not changed). But this bug is fixed afaik… -
@Egika FusedAlti does exactly what you said, but also will all the time correct the diff.
So if the “offset” is applied and later on Baro/Alti get out of sync (eg water etc) then it will slowly during the normal operation base more to GPS etc. It works like a Kalman filter -
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos yeah, that’s what I expected
now it still does not explain a changing altitude in the graph and at the same time 0 ascent/descent in the stats of the S7… -
@Egika No for sure it doesn’t. I did look to it and found no logical explenation.
However, santa should boost you up S7 guys sooner or later so lets first all align (my S7 sw with yours). Oh I hope this make a tiny sense
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos yeah - makes sense now waiting excitedly…
-
@Egika I had a similar observation with SSWHRB for running, it occurred once only.
-
@vr2udt that’s normal. No ascent or descent more than 3 meters in 12 minutes
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Thank you

I have altitude issues on my new Suunto 7. On a flat route the altitude jumps +/- 10m. Is the sensor broken?
