Suunto 7 - Reboot during recording an activity
-
The second time it happened, that during a walk (started an activity walking without problems) the watch rebootet after a short vibration during the walk.
In both cases I pressed “Pause” (I don’t know how it is displayed in English language) while shopping in a store. After leaving the store I pressed “Continue”, the activity continued for about 2 minutes, then the watch vibrated and did a reboot.
The first activity with the old firmware, the second just an hour before with the new firmware.

@pilleus This has not happened to me but I have not tried what you did. I will try to get this to repeat for me and let you know. This is with walking mode, correct?
-
@pilleus Did a walking activity exactly once with S7, but used pause/resume multiple times. No issues. One significant difference from you though – I was outside all the time, the GPS remained active I presume, and my pauses were fairly short.

This is strange… it happened to me years ago with a SSU during an ultra. After 8h of race I had to (you know, this things we need to do sometimes hahahaha) pause the watch and enter inside a zone without gps coberture. When I finish and went outside I restart the activity and then the watch hang and rebooted

So this has happened to me a couple times now. It is when out on an activity and hit pause. 50% of the time it behaves itself. The remaining time, it freezes or simply closes the app. Reopening the app does bring the activity back to life. However, I do not think I would trust using the pause functionality as it currently stands.

@pilleus The same thing happened to myself twice last weekend. In a race where you had to walk a 4 x 40km route. On both occasions, the watch erased all data from the route already transported. In the first I lost 22km and in the second 33km … It was close I didn’t give the clock a ride a little further by air. Quite stressful when you have to think about whether the clock will stay on this time or decide to restart yourself. Whether this is a Firmware problem or another application problem. Really, here’s a bit to consider for another watch model instead. Otherwise, this watch is the best watch for normal everyday life and shorter marching distances. If the problem somehow clears up, then the clock is also in hand at Nijmegen 2021.
Wishing you a nice summer day

I’m no longer a S7 user.
For kayaking the S7 was the worst case. I have no desire to use the S7 for my daily kayak training and to wait half a year or longer for a simple fix.
Now I use a Ticwatch Pro 2020 for all day usage, a Spartan Ultra for long cycling tours with navigation and a Polar Grit X for kayaking and more and more for cycling and mountain biking (komoot integration and hill splitter are great features).
Have a nice summer and enjoy your S7.

never had this issue, and regularly use pause functions and the walk activity…
