Does Fused Alti-Baro look up Elevation from Topographic Map?
-
Hi,
First post.
I use the Ambit3 Peak Sapphire extensively for navigation when hiking.
I want to believe that the fused alti-baro is more accurate and easier than setting a reference value myself every few hours but need to know more about how it works. Assuming it is in exercise mode, and GPS is on and recording:
a) Does it use the altitude directly calculated from of GPS or does it look up your elevation from a Topographic map?
b) Does it correct for the atmospheric tide fluctuations at the GPS location?
c) What humidity and temperature value/profile does it assume for the air column above you?If there is no exercise running, and the Altimeter screen is running, does Fused Alti-Baro continue to pull GPS locations and reset reference values?
Thanks,
Seb

On your later points, see @sartoric’s directions but as to on-board Topographic map - nope.
And FWIW, I also use the thing for hiking and would also like to share your beliefs about FusedAlti but it hasn’t been my experience (on hills) that it’s much better than the Baro on the old Vector. Weather change might require the Vector to be manually corrected (of course) while, regardless of weather, the GPS component of FusedAlti could introduce its own errors, overriding manual correction.
