Ambit 3 peak cycling - GPS and HR activity tracking problem.
-
Watch purchased 4 days ago, and used for tracking twice a day.
The issue happened 2 times already: after the activity was started, the watch registered both GPS and HR belt and indicated HR measurements. I started the activity and then locked the buttons. GPS was synced with new Suunto app for for satelite tracks before the activity. During the trip I could read HR ratings and it seemed to give correct indications.
After the activity I unlocked buttons and stopped registration.
Syncing with Suunto Ap on the phone shows it properly registered for a short 3 min period and then drew a straight line to destination. In the two cases out of ca 40 min of the activity only the initial 3 minutes were registered and reported. The destination point is correct. Is it the problem with the new app or with the watch? I called the Suunto help line and was adviced to reset GPS and observe further. It happened twice already and I am torn between the possibility of returning the watch to the store (there is a several day period) or having it repaired later (it is waterproof, would it not infringe its tightness?).
The symptoms seem to be similar to https://forums.watchuseek.com/f233/suunto-ambit-gps-tracking-problem-746362.html (I looked all over net for help.)
I also see there is no access to setting the precision of GPS measurements for saving energy.
I would like to use it for longer bicycle trips. -
Have you tried connecting your watch to computer with cable to check if your watch is with latest firmware?
Also, I’d advise you to use Movescount app and web while they are available instead of Suunto app, because Suunto app unfortunately still offers just most basic support and most of the watch’s settings and features cannot be adjusted or used with it.
If event then you encounter this problem, there is a high probability your watch has a hardware problem. Suunto has a great service and keeping water tightness is no problem for them, so don’t worry about that. Of course if it seems that there’s a hardware problem and you could return your watch to get a new one, you should do it, so you would not have to send this one for repair and wait…

@Jacek-Kotowski How about the GPS path in activity details on your watch logbook? Is displayed incorrectly there too?
-
The watch Logbook for that actvity is incorrect too. activity lasts 3 minutes (true activity ca 45 min) and there is a straight line which according to scale connects correct start and correct destination locations. The scale of the activity is ok… it is indeed ca 7-8 km direct line between start and destination. The watch stopped recording after ca 3 minutes but during the ride I had buttons locked so that I could read HR. HR readings from the watch during the ride seemed to be correct.
-
@Jacek-Kotowski I see, couldn’t happen that by accident you paused/stopped the activity before locking the buttons? Did you checked if there is pause time for the activity? How about other parameters? Did they get recorded for the whole duration or just the 3 minutes?
The HR reading is displayed even when the activity is not started (not sure about when paused, but should be displayed even then). -
@andrasveres I reset GPS and rebooted the watch… it seems to work OK now. But at that time the watch did not record the path, only the 3 minutes. Still it drew a straight line to the destination and the point I reached… And at that time I locked the buttons. Maybe it is a one time issue and is gone now? I am going to risk and keep the watch I think. Give it a chance.
