Suunto 7
-
@NickK I’ve read about it, I hope to have a S7 soon, here in the island I live aren’t atm available.
I think Suunto initially is not targeting for the users who uses sensors in sports with this watch IMHO. But maybe the feedback can open new features. This watch should be able to manage a marathon +4 hours, which are more in the scope of this watch.

@NickK How was your experience with Sporty Go and Stryd, did you manage to test that?
Also, once your are done with your run or ride what happens with activity, where is it logged, does it stays inside Sporty Go and you can later see it only there or it can be exported to Google fit or even better Suunto app? -

Haven’t tested that, but probably will. I’m a bit under weather to run outdoors, so treadmill would be a good starting point.

You can configure it to automatically upload to Training Peaks, Strava, or Final Surge. Personally I upload to Strava (this happens pretty much instantly), and from there use Phone Gap to push the workout into other platforms.
I asked a dev about supporting direct uploads to Suunto cloud, but sadly existing public API only allows for export, according to him. When Suunto lets you import workouts from elsewhere, he’d gladly add that route. I realize both Movescount and Sports Tracker are probably targets for import too and automatic sync to Suunto cloud, but they are kind of legacy, so I didn’t ask about them.

@NickK Thanks
-
@Bulkan I also am interested in hearing more about the restrictions preventing Suunto sleep tracking syncing with Apple health. If this synced I could then utilize that information to sync with my health benefits tracking through work and my nutrition and workout tracking with my coach. Hoping this issue is resolved soon. Any news on if this Eli’s expected as a fix soon?

And btw don’t forget to review your S7 from where you bought it ! (you can also at Suunto.com I suppose)
So I did. 5 stars for the S7 and you can read it at https://www.suunto.com/de-de/Produkte/Sportuhren/suunto-7/suunto-7-graphite-copper/?CMPID=google|search-b|performance|emea|de|suunto 7|e|409622201959|m||suunto-7&gclid=CjwKCAiA1rPyBRAREiwA1UIy8BvyykTof3DEfdB9XVh9RhqHmAI4GNE5siQ07N34g1k-WnqMLbYo0hoCmrgQAvD_BwE

battery test I found in youtube. Some comments in the video said opossite

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos skin sensor? This is not something like im the owner of S7 and if someone else uses it and makes a purchase, hes not gonna be able to make it? Dumb question but please enlighten me.
-
@Alfonse it has a proximity sensor that is a bit clever to know if on skin or not.
For example on my tattoos it’s off, when it’s on the dark part, same with a jacket but not when on the skin .
-
Let’s test this beautiful Suunto S7
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Is it just tattoo pigments now or does the watch have the old OHR limited cleverness regarding naturally darker skin?
-
@Fenr1r I think it’s just because it’s very dark , or too much color.
The moment it touches that, LEDs go off. It doesn’t even try.
I can move it Abit and find ohr but it’s very very hard

Today a 1,5 hour cycling activity recorded with Ghostracer (standalone gps, barometer and OHR activated, no AOD, but turn wrist to activate display) instead of S7 app.
Battery usage: 15 %
A good alternative to S7 app, because other BLE devices can be used (e.g. Polar H10) and a gpx file can be loaded to follow the track.
The gps quality/track is as fine as in the S7 app, much more better than in Ghostracer running on Skagen Falster 3.

@pilleus Does the GhostRacer app only run on your android phone? I just searched for it in the google play store on my S7 and did not find it. Thanks!
-
@patterbt yup needs android unfortunately and that is a GREAT app. IMO. I used it on my very first sport watch the moto 360 sport
-
@patterbt It’s an android app for smartphone and smartwatch. You can use it on the S7 as standalone app with offline maps and gpx files to navigate. Ghostracer on the S7 uses barometer (you can calibrate it to the actual altitude), heart rate (OHR), running cadence and the gps. The smartphone app is used to transfer maps, custom sport modes for cycling and running and gpx files. A great app.
-
@pilleus Thanks for the information! Unfortunately, I’m a bit screwed as I am (currently) an iphone user. The app sounds excellent, if I end up switching to Android, I will get it for sure!
-
Does anybody know any examples or manual of how to actually use GhostRacer ?
In which situations/conditions are you using it -
@vlado When you need sensors, offline maps, and route guidance?
-
just found some really nice videos on youtube regarding ghostracer, it seems like a really good app
