Suunto 7 - Tips and tricks, apps and watch faces
-
@pilleus Windy is my favorite weather app but I cannot get it to work. I assume you need an Android phone, I have iOS.

Settings on the S7 to save power
(Please search for the correct English terms in the settings of the S7, I have only the German version)
Display: Go to settings - display and set the brightness to a low level or automatic.
Gestures: Go to settings - gestures and deactivate ‘touch to wake up the watch’ and ‘wrist gestures’ (I speak about the gesture to bring the upper screen with the symbols or the bottom screen with notifications up through a hard and fast turn of the wrist and the fast shaking of the wrist in both directions to open the menu with the installed apps). I only have active the gesture to show the screen when I rise the arm.
Animations: Switch them off to have a snappy change of screens and static symbols instead of animated (e. g. the white running circle at the top of the screen when opening Google Fit).
Go to settings - system - info. Scroll down to the Build version or number and tap on the word until you get the message to be a developer now.
Leave info and system and you will find at the bottom of the menu the developer options. Open it and scroll down to the three lines with animations.
Open one after the other and activate the first option, which sets the animation to off.
You can redo all these settings without problems if you experience any problems.
Tip to solve problems with missing heart rate in Google Fit or missing notifications while running the Suunto App during an activity: Reset the S7 to factory settings and reconfigure it with WearOS.
I did this after the last update of the S7 Suunto App and now I have notifications in the proper way during recording an activity and continuous recording of the heart rate in Google Fit.
Thanks for reading!

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Very cool! 2 Thoughts/Questions:
Should there be a setting to input elevation so that the pressure measurements are more accurate based on elevation etc?
Is there any chance of having a inHg setting/version?
Very great work!!! Thank you!

provides a gpx routing with different maps, map styles, colors and even 3D view in paired or standalone mode. Offline maps optional.
Here a power saving style I prefer on the S7 (just switched away from the correct orientation, sorry).

You want to check the air pressure during an activity recorded with the S7 app or start another app?
With this gesture launcher you can do it with a tap to a predefined area on the screen without leaving the S7 app. Just tap there, draw your gesture on the screen, the program will open. I defined the left corner to tap to avoid conflicts with the S7 options on the right side of the screen.
After swiping out the open program to the right side you will be back in S7 app without doing anything else.
-
Okay, this gesture thing is great!
I toggled between ghost racer and S7 app and it worked flawlessly.
Just a short tap, drawing the gesture and the app is open. Back to the other app in the same way.

gpx routing
On a ride over 3 hours I used the S7 without connection to the phone (no WearOS, no Suunto app connected).
S7 app was recording cycling (mountain bike path), ghost racer was recording the activity too with a loaded gpx route and offline maps. Both apps used the gps of the S7.
I toggled between S7 app and ghost racer, to show elevation and altitude and nearby crossings to show the track.
After 1,5 hours I stopped ghost racer and continued with S7 app only.
Start: Battery 97 %
After 1,5 h and recording the activity with two apps : 70 %
After 3 h and recording only with S7 app from 1,5 h onwards: 60 %Tomorrow I will take S7 app and Locus to have a comparison of routing with a gpx track. ️

About what?
-
@pilleus the gestures and changing apps during an activity.
The lack of support of Stryd would make me to use another app to record with power and export it to Suunto app later so I’m very interested about the gestures and 2 apps at the same time during activity.
-
@pilleus thanks, very interesting! Did you already try ViewRanger? I’m about to test it, but if you’ve already done that…
-
@jean-william-cousin no, I didn’t test viewranger. I don’t like the layout and setup. Sorry to say this.
-
@pilleus same here. I tried it but I was like : I cannot use this on the watch

the gestures and changing apps during an activity.
Here a short video captured via ADB. A bit lagging therefore. I toggled between S7 app (recording cycling mountain bike) and Locus Map (loaded gpx file for routing). My gestures: for Locus Map -> L to show to the lower button, for Suunto App -> upside down L to show to the upper button. So I can remember the gestures.
is there a way to embed a youtube videos?
-
@pilleus
It shouldn’t be possible.
But you can add an image as a thumbnail and add the video link -
@sartoric thanks
