I just received an email from Suunto:

      *Dear Suunto Community,

We are happy to share the latest news related to our digital service transition to Suunto app. You can find our previous updates here.

We continue to grow our partner ecosystem, delivering new and relevant benefits including training plans, analysis and social sharing capabilities.

Our partners currently provide these key benefits to enhance your experience:
Desktop analysis of your workouts with Strava, Runalyze and others
Coaching and training plans with TrainingPeaks and others
      Video sharing through Relive
Get to know all partners at suunto.com/partners
Also, now all mobile connected Suunto watches can import their exercise history from Movescount to Suunto app.

Haven’t joined us in Suunto app yet? Download today.

      Download now

      Movescount App
As mentioned in April, we will remove the Movescount App from Google Play Store and App Store for new downloads. We target this action to be completed on December 18, 2019. Read more details here.

      Moveslink2 and Suuntolink
In the summer of 2020, we will renew your digital service experience. We will enable the connection of your watch to Suuntolink (which will replace Moveslink2). Suuntolink will connect you to Suunto app and enable you to experience the benefits from our growing partner ecosystem.

      Suunto Movescount.com (service web)
Our web service will continue to evolve in 2020. We will no longer call it Movescount, but you will still have a similar web-based tool to manage important settings and functionality (including routes and sport mode customization) in your watch.  We will keep you updated on these coming changes. You can read more here.

      -Your Suunto Team*

I tried to find it in the web but I could not find anything. From what I read, and being optimistic, seems that all of us will keep a web solution and Suuntolink will also be compatible with SA. There is no mention of watch models so I assume is for all.

Lets see if my assumptions are correct, in that case Suunto 👍 👍 👍

Yeah, another joke from Vantaa. Still nothing about A3 full support in SA. Still don’t know if in one week A3 users will be forced to bring a complete computer with internet access to setup the watch.
Imagine a training sequence at the running club :

        • “hi guys !”
        • “hum… What are you doing with your laptop here ? Are you crazy ?”
        • “No, it’s the only way to modify parameters…”
        • “🤣🤣🤣🤣😂😂😂 why don’t you buy Gar…, Pol… or Co… like us ??”
        • 🥺😩😭

@Janfi why would you need a computer? I dont get it?

The email is for devices that are not BT compatible eg Ambit1,2 and dive.

You can sync with SA your ambit 3 can’t you?

I received the same email, for my A3P. The coach gives specifics intervals and other things we don’t know before the session. Without movescount app on mobile, how setup the watch if it’s not possible with SA ? We can go on movescount website but imho it’s a regression vs an app with better UI.

I really don’t get it. So much secrecy. Is it that hard to say clearly something like:

Ambit3 - by June 2020 we will add full support for Ambit3 watches (or we will gradually add more features).

              Or:
Ambit3 - After removing Movescount app from app stores we will encourage our users to start using Suunto app for syncing and GPS update. Watch customization, routes, poi-s etc. will in the future only be updated with Suuntolink.

It’s very frustrating. Just make your mind already. Why would you want your users to keep waiting for bits of information with no clear path for the future? You are going to piss off so many people that even those that would otherwise stay with suunto, will just give up. Nobody needs this waiting game all the time.

@Prenj well you asked and you provided feedback about your products so that feedback was heard (see Jan transition update)

They could have sticked to Movescount is going away and voila , put your ambit in the drawer

@Janfi So in each run you all guys and girls are setting up intervals in your watch?

Why do you have a reallife coach then?

Jokes aside if you want the intervals or idk to customize your sport mode then yes you will need to bring your laptop, but I think you will be faster than others that will be using their mobiles as far as I understand right? (it has a joke tone here)

😢 😢 It says nothing about the watch model, so I implied that Spartans and S-line will be able to use the web route creation tool in the web.

“Movescount is going away and voila, put your ambit in the drawer” would actually be an information. Not something I would be happy with, but still, it would be clear and wouldn’t keep the feeling of uncertainty all the time. But all we really get is just inconclusive bits of data every few months which can be interpreted in different ways. We never get full and clear information. Why is this? Doesn’t someone at suunto understand how frustrating this is to users?

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos you are right, not for each training, but sometimes (or often for others guys with more represented brands, by example with watches where everything can be set directly on the watch in a minute). I agree that my example is exaggerated. Maybe because this style of communication from Suunto makes me crazy.
Afterall all of this is not important. I already know what I will do when my A3P will needs to be replaced.

It says that you will be using movescount (or how it will be called) to customize your watch and Suunto app to view your activities.

                            right ?

Yeah, it would be cool that we could change sport mode or other setting on the field with a mobile app, but if you are serious about what you are doing, you plan that before you go on field. There can be cases when it would be nice to change some data fields, but hey that can’t be more important than enjoying the activity you’re doing, right?
Stay cool and enjoy the ride 😉

This is exactly the problem. They just keep us guessing and waiting for yet another announcement of announcement which will clear things up a bit. But it never does.

Well, the mail that I received talks about Moveslink2, that is for Ambit3 & Traverse (maybe more models) that are Bluetooth and when it talks about Movescount doesn’t mention any watch model. I’m talking about the email that I received just 2 hours ago.

The links in the email go to November the 5th comunication but I am assuming that is a new communication, not the November one. If its the November one, sorry for the misunderstanding but I do not understand why I have received the email more than a month after the official communication…😮 😮

                                          @andrasveres

true for most everything accept routes and particularly stand alone poi. For backcountry use, being able to do this with a phone app is pretty important. Yea, I plan ahead, but might want to sync a last minute poi from a map in the SA to the watch. I get that I’m not gonna get that, but that’s the use-case for needing it on the phone and not from a laptop.

at least with the ambit watches I can do it manually with a paper map, offline phone map app, and then manually enter the gps coordinates. Pain but doable. For Spartan, S series users, too bad. Not gonna happen unless they update those watch’s firmware to support it.

Basically, Suunto has bailed on the backcountry traveler crowd. Long live the compass and paper map!

@chrish Don’t despair quite yet: it appears that offline phone POI creation and transfer to Spartan/Sx is coming next month-ish (see relevant thread). Waiting to see exactly how the UI works (poke-a-map, tap in coordinates? Labelling?).

Sadly, I don’t think there are enough of us to campaign for the POI on-watch creation so it’s sort of ironic that the Spartan/Sx touchscreen (with pickers) is so much better adapted for the process than the Ambit’s buttons.
