I want to use Suunto app instead of Movescount but ...
-
Dear all,
I like so much synchronizing and managing my S9 through movescount web but I think the Suunto app is now good enough to consider using it exclusively (but I hope a kind of Suunto app web service will be available later on).
The migration from movescount web to SA is quite well explained. I guess I should be able to do it without too many issues. My concern is about the GPX file management after the migration is done (I mean without using movescount web). With movescount web it was very easy to take into acount a new GPX file: I stored the GPX file on my PC laptop and I uploaded it into movescount web which uploaded the GPX file into the watch. How will I do proceed with Sunnto app for Android ? I could not find the information of FAQ pages.
Thanks

https://forum.suunto.com/topic/1459/gpx-import-into-sa-how-to-guide-androidHello and thank you very much. I did not think to look for tips on SA forum …
Another question please:
Let’s say the migration is done and I use exclusively SA with my S9. What will happen when I plug my S9 to my PC and I use it with Suunto link ? Usually the following happens :
- battery is charged
- firmware is updated if required
- GPS position is optimized
- synchronisation is done with movescount web
Will it be still the same thing ?
Remark : I use customized mode for my sportThanks

@77alex77 I still use both because SA is shite. I’ve been using it for a few months & its slow, sticky & missing features like being able to set POI. It’s so lousy, that when my Spartan dies, I’ll probably go to Garmin, yes, its that bad. I’ve tried to be positive & patient, but Suunto App is not a replacement for MC, its a dinky toy application that looks like its been written by developers from a third world country.
-
@marcosss dang, that’s harsh. Tho I understand people’s different levels of patience, I do not understand the third world country comment?? I don’t doubt when you make the jump to Garmin, you will find in a extremely progressive, ever changing "must please everyone all the time at this very moment" world. You will find the same issues and frustrations in a different form. I am not pleased with suunto at the moment but being a long time owner, I’ve tested through and been impressed outside of my own selfishness for demanding perfection in detailing my custom lifestyle.

I think once the transition is complete only #1 and #2 will still be done. Moveslink is still the only way to upgrade firmware.
I too still sync my Suunto 9 only with Movescount, although I almost never plug it into laptop and sync with Movescount app only. There is no difference. Even if you need to sync sport mode customization or a route that still works via Movescount app.
-
@marcosss There are individuals on this forum that spend a lot of their personal time to help others. The main person on the forum helps to develop Suunto app software and collects the most requested features so that these can be implemented into SA. Please refrain from making personally insulting comments or I will have to remove those particular posts. I would appreciate it if you can be constructive. If you do not like the app and think it is not useful that is fine, you are welcome to your opinion and welcome to voice it but the insults are offensive.

You can use SA and MC apps together, just make sure only one is running, the other cannot be running in the background.
As per your post above, #1 and #2 will likely remain for Suuntolink. #3 works for some watches but not for S3F or S5. If you connect to SA and use routes or custom sport modes #4 will not work with Suuntolink but does work with MC app. -
@Brad_Olwin Thank you. Actually I don’t use MC app at all. I use only MC web through my laptop PC and I use also Suunto app Android for quick analysis after my running.
I find the Suunto App very good, well designed (it was not the case a few months ago). Moreover my wife has just received a S5 and she can only use Suunto app so this is the good time for me for moving to Suunto app exclusively.
In Suunto app I cannot find the button Movescount import in the “connect to other services”, is it normal ? Should I do anything special ? I own a S9 and have got it connected to Suunto app for months (only for displaying data, sport mode customization and GPX management were done through MC web only).

Honestly I don’t see a point of using two apps together. There are zero features in SA that I’d want that I don’t already get by syncing with Movescount. I guess the only reason for me to sync with SA would be to use mobile route editor, but that would disable Movescount sync, so no thanks!
-
@Brad_Olwin its simply an opinion based on using the product. The forum is here for people to express their opinions, no? The app is not that good, it has faults & needs a lot more work. Its a beta. Did I single anyone out? Hmm I don’t think so. But what ever.
-
@marcosss The lastest statements are fine…“dinky toy application that looks like its been written by developers from a third world country.” I find offensive and I believe those working on it would too.

There is no MC import nor will there be. There is an MC export rolling out so all moves can be exported from MC into SA.

Here are the ones for me…Workout Planner as I have my workouts show up in the watch and occasionally I need waypoints. Once those are in SA I will be done with MC. I can get by w/o waypoints most of the time but not always. I use the workout planner a lot.
Ahh, did not read carefully enough. The route planner and customization of sport modes for me in SA are worth it. Finally, completely offline syncing is worth it for me too. So I am on SA just waiting for the two features above to transfer and I am done with MC.
