Suunto 9 baro - GPS track not accurate
-
@florin2528 said in Suunto 9 baro - GPS track not accurate:
For a 8.41 km run there is already a difference of 110 meters and 14 meters for altitude.
How do you know the true distance and altitude?
Suunto 9 does cut corners which I have a problem with too, but in my experience it is still more accurate than most other GPS watches.
-
GPS accuracy can’t be judged from a single event (not even a few), since it is influenced by soo many factors (satellite positions, topography, sun activity, antenna position, etc etc)
-
@silentvoyager
the below one is from suunto 9. -
I war reading another thread and I will try to do calibration of the compass before run.
Any feedback is welcome. -
please wait for next firmware’s enhancement, even I don’t think it will get better.
-
@florin2528 do a watch reboot via 12s upper button and sync the AGPS daily please.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos I will do the reboot today, regarding the AGPS sync, it’s done daily.
I will get back with feedback after my next run.Do you have some numbers regarding extra battery usage if I will enable GLONASS also?
Thanks for getting back,
Florin -
@florin2528 those numbers show on your prestart screen. I think the damage is ~2h (on a 100% charge)
-
had another run where GPS was ok, not very accurate, but ok. Today I had another run where GPS went crazy.
I’m attaching the route from telephone (galaxy A15) and the one from watch.I’m sorry to say, but suunto9 can’t be trusted. I was in an area with small houses, nothing that can result in something like this.
I was previously using a fenix 5 and had no issue with the track(shitty battery - but that something else).Please advise.

I’d advise you to move to another country and give it a try.
-
@florin2528
they both look quite off to what I am used to -
@zhang965 I don’t understand you, what country has to do? My cheap phone has a decent signal, why shouldn’t have the suunto 9. I had a fenix 5 which had no issues in this country.
-
@florin2528
@zhang965 has a very high sense of humour
But after first joke, he mainly explains his real thougt -
And surely here, he might imagine that location of your run and/or specific day GPS conditions, may not be perfect.
Btw, the straight line in your watch recording is not good -
GPS is quite cranky this week. Been noticing that the tracks aren’t particularly great.
-
@Mff73 the conditions were not perfect, a couple of thin clouds. Regarding the houses around I attached a picture.
google coordinates where it lost signal:

I still have two weeks for returning the product back. Any chances of getting a software update until then?
Thanks,
Florin -
I don’t think my S9 has a good GPS track accuracy but I think mine has not same as worst as yours.
You have to do several tests to make sure where is the problem.
Do a 12s reboot and update AGPS.
Try once in same route.
Try another route (another country)
Try another day. (sunny day without thin cloud)
Try with Glonass(sometime/some countries Glonass is better than GPS) -
Do a 12s reboot and update AGPS. - Already did that and the calibration step.
Try once in same route. - I already did that and the track was decent.
Try another route (another country) - don’t see the relevance.
Try another day. (sunny day without thin cloud) - don’t see the relevance. If my phone works in cloudy day, suunto should also.
Try with Glonass(sometime/some countries Glonass is better than GPS) - I will and get back on this thread.
Here i was in the mountains:
but this watch is used for tracking of the rebullXalps athletes. It should work also in the mountains.

@zhang965
Try once in same route.an example from another run, same place.

Do a 12s reboot and update AGPS. - Already did that and the calibration step.
Try once in same route. - I already did that and the track was decent. so it means your S9’s GPS could work well
Try another route (another country) - don’t see the relevance. We’d know if the bad signal relevant the route, for example another route has good GPS signal, it means on your first route, it has some unsure factors
Try another day. (sunny day without thin cloud) - don’t see the relevance. If my phone works in cloudy day, suunto should also. Yes and no, GPS watch normally has not the same accuracy as phone
Try with Glonass(sometime/some countries Glonass is better than GPS) - I will and get back on this thread.but this watch is used for tracking of the rebullXalps athletes. It should work also in the mountains.
