Suunto 5
-
Hi,
Just a rumor from https://gpsrumors.com/suunto-5 but, someone (without NDA) has any idea of then is it going to happen this?

@suzzlo DCR alluded in one of the posts a week or two ago he’d been sitting on several products review that had been pulled from publication at the last minute. Won’t be surprised if S5 was one of them. Will know soon enough!
-
@NickK Although I follow the blog of DC RainMaker, I think it is not very friendly with Suunto (although I am not either sometimes), so many times it does not publish as much information about Suunto or Polar as it does with Garmin (or at least that it’s the feeling that I have).
Anyway, I hope that the S5 and the S7 appear soon, and with them a Spartan firmware update with the inclusion of some new functionality as well as bug fixes
-
@suzzlo any rumours about new features ? Will they be limited to new products, 5 and 7 ?
-
@dulko79 No rumors yet. Lusty (the URL above) is the first to mention Suunto 5, and all we got thus far is a tacit confirmation of the watch having GPS and being the next iteration of the Trainer. Experience shows though that any features requiring external licensing, i.e. Firstbeat analytics, usually don’t get retrofitted. So, if Suunto 5 has those, they would remain exclusive to it. Things that Suunto controls I’d expect to come to at least S9. But then, who am I?

There ist this from wireless registration process:
-
That SuuntoLeaks!!! File dated on January!
-
@suzzlo They might have asked FCC to keep registration sealed. The fact that it’s out means the announcement is indeed imminent. Or Suunto lawyers forgot to file for an extension…
-
@suzzlo Made in Finland, not in China as “Trainer 1”. Good sign! Quality control demading.
-
@Luís-Pinto you are the one that made the most useful observations

My 5c: https://fccid.io/RYP2576

It has external gps antenna like Spartan Trainer and Ambit.
And it has BAROMETER!!!
-
@johann-fuehrer Hm, user manual and photos to be available at the end of September? Bummer. So much for imminent release.
-
@ColdBeer
Very nice. How about movescount? -
Barometer? Really? This could be very good add, since my SSSW is totally inaccurate in terms of altitude (it’s always between 50-20% of the real accumulated meter gained)

@NickK I suppose, it will be released before, the end of September is already passed high season…
-
@NickK If you check for other models (like Suunto 9) for when the permission for the documents were set and then later when the device was released, ist sometimes months earlier. It’s different to Garmin, which have 45-90 days after approval for the documents and then present the stuff some 1-5 weeks earlier. The date from Suunto for public availability is not realy useable for such an prediction, it seems that they always use 6 months … Also check Suunto 9, which was released some months before the User manual was approved to be shown in the public at the FCC webpages…
-
@johann-fuehrer I hope you are right. If I remember correctly, S3F was announced around April, so we are getting into “news from Suunto” territory. Still, the dates are there. Hopefully, Suunto was just being conservative.

April will be 5 months since last firmware… Crossing fingers
