Is there anyy Official info how to move all data from Movescount to Suunto App?
-
We know it will not be easy …
I have an original idea:
Do we use Movescount as a web app… -

The grass may appear to seem greener until you examine the root structures
That is why I won’t be changing soon despite all the hassle. And I keep hoping to see the missing features

The problem above is what expectation should a web meet? Training Peaks? Strava?
From all the comments on this forum it turns out that the current MC website is just fine. If only it could be paired with the new SA, we would have a perfect match But I understand that these are two different platforms after all.

@Brad_Olwin Do You have some links?
-
@karel-louda links for?
-
@Brad_Olwin for the Garmin-related forums regarding the GPS, battery issues, etc.

Why look elsewhere? MC is/was already more than capable for (I would say) >85% of the Suunto users…

Just go to the Garmin Forums for 5x plus or 5 plus. The topics are easy to find.

That said web interface is the most requested feature and the most hard feature.
The problem above is what expectation should a web meet? Training Peaks? Strava? No need for that much. Movescount level will be fine

@claudiotereso its still not an easy small task.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos at the price point of a Suunto watch we are not only paying for the device
-
@halajos I understand but that is not 100% correct. You can buy the S9 “gold” or anyother version and then you pay only for the device.
So yes it’s like a base part for services and some part for device materials. -
I’m with those who are using the MC app/site, that level of site is sufficient, IMHO.
I bet a very large percentage of people getting “down to the details” with their data are using a 3rd party service, sport-specific or similar, to analyze their data, anyway. On the topic of the “data move”, is it known if this will be continuously available?
I have an Ambit3 (cycling) and and Ambit3 Peak watch, the latter of which I use to track skiing primarily (I can go on a long ski trip or backcountry trip, and usually have sufficient battery with the Peak).
Given that it sounds like I’ll not be able to track skiing anymore (requires an app, which likely won’t be supported), once I move to the SA, I want to delay this to the absolute last minute, and then export my data (not sure if I’ll be staying with Suunto at this point, given that my very expensive, working A3 Peak effectively becomes a “doorstop” for me…), and import it into SA or whatever platform. If we’re forced to do it one time, this Spring, that effectively “kills” my Ambit3 Peak, for skiing, moving forward.
It does seem a little bizarre to me, that this is still being sold, and marketed to support skiing (I double-checked this before posting), when they’re in the process of phasing out the support for skiing, imminently.Or, is it remotely possible that Suunto will add in sports that need additional functionality (like counting ski runs, stats), for these watches/customers that are getting completely hosed by this?
Thanks.

@pgrey whats up with Skiing ?
-
@pgrey What is so good about A3P with skiing? The S9 does an amazing job without an app. Counts downhill runs, downhill speed avg and max and all sorts of other data.
-
@Brad_Olwin, for me, the A3P isn’t that good for skiing “out of the box”, but with a couple of apps it’s very good as long as I’m looking at the data on the watch. If the support for the apps on the A3P will be terminated with the shutdown of movescount, I will miss that and will be disappointed.
On movescount web I can manually enter the skiing-specific data fields from the app’s recorded data. So it’s kind of OK. It’s a pity that the movescount mobile app doesn’t sync that manually entered data from the web. I tried SA with the A3P, it extracts skiing metrics from the recorded track, and that’s comparable to what the apps on the watch measured.
For skiing SA seems to do better than the movescount app, but on the watch the apps are needed and I’m expecting some kind of continued support for that. Regarding the web interface, movescount is better for skiing than any other 3rd party I tried. For instance, strava includes the lifts in the distance even if synced from SA to strava, although SA itself calculates downhill distance.
To sum it up, I’m still more satisfied with movescount in spite of the manual editing I need to do. -
@halajos The S9 does all of what you want without an app and on MC has the appropriate downhill data. This is still not implemented in SA yet but will be I am sure. I typically use a custom Alpine Ski mode for my touring as I really like having all of the downhill data on my watch. Below is a screenshot for customization of the sport mode for Downhill laps in SA for the Spartan/S9. I think you would really like this.
-
@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos Skiing relies on an app, in order to track runs, and stats about them. Without the app, there’s no run-counting, and I think it may count “uphill time” the same as downhill.
XC or Backcountry skiing is probably fine, but I do far less of those, nowadays.
@Brad_Olwin I own the Ambit2 and Ambit 3 Peak, and they work, just fine.
Yeah, the S9 is a great watch, I’m sure (although the OHR accuracy seems particularly bad, from what I’ve read), but it’s $5-700 that I don’t want/need to spend.
I get that “upgrades are awesome”, when a user “chooses” that path, either due to a product dying (battery, damage, other failure), or wanting new functionality. I’m not in either of these positions right now, but I’m about to be “forced” into one of some sort.If I could take my Ambit2, and turn it into an S9, say at a 50% discount or similar, THEN it would make sense, mostly, and be more workable in the budget.
Instead, when they disable apps, I’m more or less “done”, I’ll probably be looking for a really cheap Garmin to track my ski days, unfortunately; ultimately probably the end of my “Suunto experience” too…

@Brad_Olwin So, I fired up the (latest, checked before starting) SA today, first time in a while, and I sure don’t see any of the settings, per-sport?
Were these screenshots from the app?I’d be perfectly happy if I can enable the same, in DH skiing, on my Ambit3, but I don’t think this is slated to ever work, on the SA?
Or am I just missing something? Thanks.
-
@pgrey Those screenshots are for the S9, just wanted to show you what the S9 does without apps. Most of the apps I used on my A3P are part of the S9 firmware. Another big plus for me with the S9 is distance on routes to next WP or End is route based and accurate, not as the “crow flies” on the Ambit series. Perhaps Suunto will do “something” for loyal customers, they did for me when I sent in a T6c to be repaired. It was not repairable and I was sent a substantial discount code for a new watch (30%).
-
@Brad_Olwin Yeah, the S9 is a nice watch, but I don’t have the disposable funds for one right now, and I have a “perfectly working ecosystem”, with my Ambit3/Ambit2.
It’s just a bit bizarre to me, that they’re still advertising/selling the Ambit3, including for sports like skiing (I checked), when they seem to be planning on disabling this, very soon.I can’t even figure out how to change sports right now, via the SA, that interface doesn’t even seem to exist, probably because I have an Ambit?
I want a web interface though, either way, so I’m looking around at used Fenix 5’s and such, and plan on (trying to anyway) selling my 2/3 in the next couple of months.
I figure this is a better option now, given that there’s no response from Suunto, for any of this (activities that require apps, web-interface, “hobbled” SA for an Ambit3, etc), rather than wait for things to spiral anymore (and for resale to bottom-out).Obviously, any major manufacturer could nuke the same functionality, but it’s sort of the “devil you know” type of deal, really.
It’s knd of “odd” really, my old Vector, from 1998, is essentially going to “outlive” my Ambit2 and 3, it’s still very functional for backpacking and such.
I did find this kind of interesting though, given that apparently they’re planning on “nuking” about 45% of their current user base (assuming almost everyone uploads, of course): https://forum.suunto.com/topic/1773/sample-set-movescount-com-uploads-jan-15-by-device-family/2
