I cannot fathom why Suunto has chosen the path of 2 seperate OS systems. The Run 2 software looks alot sleeker and modern, and more focused towards training features. I really want that software on my Vertical 2… Please cannot someone explain the logic behind Suuntos decision on 2 OS systems.

@Kristin-Jensen there might be good business reasons. But you are not the only one, trust me 😄

@OutdoorMan Maybe… problem being that if one want the Run 2 software, but one prefer at bigger watch and maybe a LED flashlight, then Suunto does not offer that, so one might end up looking at Coros or Garmin for that reason, so therefore i really would like to hear the idea behind this from Suunto 🙄

I wonder if this 2 OS isn’t a consequence of the Finland -> China transition (which included the tech teams and several lay-offs in the team(s) in Finland) a couple of years ago.
One is the legacy codebase, still fit and delivering, the the other is the brand new codebase started by the new team and being ramp up in a lower level watch until gets feature parity and then replace the legacy system. As a Software Engineer, this is the bread and button of Software Engineering.

@jjorgemoura If that is the case, then Suunto should be transparent about it.

Name me a sports watch company that was transparent about their software transition…

If I remember correctly there was software transition on S9 Peak Pro, it used older OS, from Suunto 9, and got modern one from Race and Vertical. S9 Peak didn’t get it, but Peak Pro did. So if they decide to switch OSs, it won’t be the first time
