As someone passionated by old technology and seeing some of it getting revived/having new apps specially with the help of LLMs I tough myself if it could be doable to write a small program to upload a gpx to an ambit on android (either via bluetooth or usb otg)?

Why?
1 - As we know, with the closing of movescount to suunto app, we “lost” the ability to sync routes wirelessly to the ambit (on movescount you could open movescount on your android browser, upload road, and sync it with movescont android app and normally you would have the route on your ambit).

2 - suunto tested gpx sync to ambit via suunto app (ios only?) with bluetooth but it was unstable.
3 - we only can upload routes to ambit having a windows or mac computer around and we still need android or ios device to upload the route to suunto app

What was done in the past that may help?
https://github.com/openambitproject/openambit
https://github.com/centic9/gpx2route
https://github.com/guiguoz/opensportsync
https://github.com/starryalley/AmbitSynchttps://github.com/starryalley/AmbitSync

On my side I have zero knowledge on coding, but I have some free time, ambit 3 , mac, windows and linux machine.
And for the sake of fun and revival of ambit keen on spending some euros on LLM credits.

Of course, I expect zero time from suunto, but if anyone has tips on how to start I will be keen on it.

Feel free also to tell me why you think or know why this won’t work.

PS: for sure the dream would be that instead of this we could integrate this work into suunto app, but I highly doubt it is possible for obvious reasons.

Edit: already found that the ambit 3 driver is lacking this function https://github.com/openambitproject/openambit/issues/286

@sebchastang I recall you messing around with the ambit 3, maybe do you have any info?
@margusl you too 😃

@dimitrios-kanellopoulos @pavel.samokha is there anyone that can have info that can be shared for this missing communication protocol?

edit2: github set up by a friend that is helping me with the findings so far . Also trying to gathering findings for other features on watches like the Kailash (wich I have).

Well after a full week guess it is “done”:

Finally arrived to send (and recover) gpx from ambit 3 on android.
Way more complicated than it seems. A lot of claude credits and testing.
Turned out into a app to read activities, upload to 3rd parties, import POIs, export POis, import gpx, export gpx, create intervals apps, read and edit sports modes (to be fully tested), etc

It will be available for android, linux, and normally mac and windows (to double check and test). Supporting ambits, traverses and kaylashes. USB/USB-OTG and BLE.

It wouldn’t be possible without:
Openambit project
Opensportsync project
@margusl @ze-stuart @sebchastang @pavel.samokha @dimitrios-kanellopoulos

For those that still have those machines and would love to test stay tunned

@André-Faria Sounds great! I will blow the dust from my Ambit3 Vertical and charge it. I love this clunky old thing 😀

Thanks!! Me too! All ahahah Here is a little video of the undergoing desktop app that will also be the base for android (hope ios one day)

@zhangschmidt while looking for some material in order to get back some old movescount features like training plan I stumbled uppon what maybe was your site.
You had a lot of material, which unfortunately is not up anymore, if you still have some of them ,specially in what would concern movescount training plans I would be keen to have it to see if I can reproduce something.
