I have an Ambit 2. Is the announcement saying the following?

      1. My existing activities will be transferred from MovesCount to the app (at some as-yet-undetermined point in the future).
      2. I will then only be able to view the activities in the app.
      3. There will be no Suuno web interface of any description any more.
      4. My Ambit2 will then become useless because I won’t ever be able to change any settings or upload / change any routes or standalone POIs ever again?
      5. If I ever want to download any activities from it, I’ll have to use an unauthorised third-party solution.

I sincerely hope I’m wrong about (4), because that will mean that Suunto are effectively bricking a perfectly functional watch. The third I’ve bought off them. And it will be the last if so.

          1. My existing activities will be transferred from MovesCount to the app (at some as-yet-undetermined point in the future).

Log into Sports Tracker (web interface for Suunto app), or Suunto app itself. The activities should be there. If not, linking the apps should automatically move all your activities. I’d imagine this would happen by itself once the plug on Movescount is pulled.

          1. I will then only be able to view the activities in the app.

You can view them via existing web interface, though it’s nothing like and nowhere as detailed as MC.

          1. There will be no Suuno web interface of any description any more.

There’s original Sports Tracker web interface. It exists now and will continue to exist. Whether it is going to be replaced by something better or just updated is not known.

          1. My Ambit2 will then become useless because I won’t ever be able to change any settings or upload / change any routes or standalone POIs ever again?

The announcement seems to imply sunset on older devices. But who knows? Suunto may change their mind! Besides, people already mention OpenAmbit project.

          1. If I ever want to download any activities from it, I’ll have to use an unauthorised third-party solution.

All current solutions for moving your workout data are fine. You don’t need Suunto’s authorization to use them. Moreover, since the new Suunto app / cloud platform is Open API, it’s safe to assume more data migration options will become available. @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos already demoed a tool he’s been writing.

As many have said, the best course of action is to reach out to Suunto support and ask for solutions to the specific problems you have, assuming that MC is going away. Whether it’s data migration, web interface, POI in routes, or sync for non-BLE enabled devices.

@NickK Please keep in mind that this Sports Trackes side won’t show all the data we want, for example there is still now ascent/descent data on Sports Tracker. Hopefully this website won’t be the replacement for Movescount. Not before it shows all the relevant date likewise Movescount.

@jthomi I know. I try to be as explicit as possible: the current web interface in Sports-Tracker is no MC replacement. I have been calling for a proper web interface since registering in this forum about a year ago. Hopefully, with so many people voicing their opinion, our collective voice would be heard.

Still, it’s also incorrect to say there’s no web interface, etc.

Hello on Linux based OS, a software called openambit can extract file from the ambit2 serie.
Maybe someone can convert it to works on windows OS…

                  Phone: Blackview 9500 android 8.1
Watches: S9 baro & ambit run
S9 on SA… a lot of features are still missing

@haydnw excatly what Suunto has said today except for the small fine print note that thye are excited that you continue your experience with them… I don’t think many Ambit1/2 will see this as experience…

Ambit, Ambit2, M-series, T-series and Quest Collection watches:
We are excited to offer you the ability to transfer your Move history from Movescount to Suunto app and continue your experience with Suunto"

So, I have an Ambit 2 and don’t care if I lose all my data - I just want to know how far I have run and my time and pace for that run. I would never even connect to Movescount except for the fact that I have to clear the memory (upload the data on my watch) from time to time. Am I correct that once my watch fills up with data after Movescount goes away it will then be useless? Is there an alternative way to clear the data on my watch?

I have to clear the memory

no need to connect your Ambit2 to movescount for this ‘clear meory’, the internal memory in the watch is rolling over means if space needed the watch will delete the oldest move automatically and free up space, this change has been implemented after the T6 and for all Ambit’s onwards

@DLRunner, let me guess, you ask because of a sync reminder that pops up when more than 50% of memory is occupied by new unsynced activities? In your case it’s safe to ignore it. By the way, Pause -> Back in the activity will ask if you want to end and save. Choosing No for save will still show a summary.

margussl Yes, I believe that when I see that reminder I am unable to start a new workout until I have cleared the memory.

Thank you both - I guess I didn’t understand how the memory worked. Hopefully I can keep using my Ambit 2 for a long time!

Just one day before the axe announcement by Suunto I have written this about my beloved Ambit2:

" Loving my Ambit 2 - no color display, no wireless bullshit - oldskool solid product 🎯 from times when Suunto was eager to succeed & have no guts to implements planned obsolescence into the product itself 👹"

How little I knew about implementing design obsolescence into it’s future connectivity😱 !

Let’s not forget this lesson: Suunto might offers Ambit2 owners % discount for their products purchase, so we throw away perfectly working product & give them more $ ?
The trust was lost in one email Suunto, it will take years to built it 👫
