Barometer fault or software bug?

I know that similar behaviour has already been discussed extensively in the forum but I believe I am getting a peculiar variation of the previous occurrences.

The last two hikes I did I got an abnormal total ascent:

• yesterday my Race measured 2081m of ascent, as opposed to my wife’s Race S 855m and 775m from the map (877m according to Strava*)

• two weeks ago it measured 1464m of ascent, as opposed to my father’s 9 Peak Pro 520m and 510m from the map (498m according to Strava)

In both occurrences maximum and minimum altitude were correct, I manually set the altitude before starting the acquisition. I cannot blame wind as all the watches were affected by the same level of wind and all of us were just wearing t-shirts.

I believe that similar behaviour has already been discussed and is most likely related to a dirt or faulty barometer BUT I am getting the correct ascent on all my runs:

• this morning 145m of ascent, 143m from the map

• Saturday 566m of ascent, 458m from the map (from my previous experience the former is correct as the map is a little bit flatlined in an hill section)

• Wednesday 286m of ascent, 275m from the map

• etc…

I cleaned with some extra care the barometer area two weeks ago and I have just performed a power cycle of the watch.

Please let me know should you have any recommendation!

Edit: I have added the output of the Correct Elevation option available on Strava that one of my co-workers showed me. This could be an useful addition also on the Suunto App!
