Suunto Race Power Cuts out during runs

Hi,
i recently bought a Suunto Race and I am quite happy with it. However on my first run, I found that estimated power cuts to zero randomly over the first 15mins. Its stable afterwards, however. I am using the device for pacing and power control on bike rides and am now quite alarmed to have found, while reading throu some forum posts that this might even be an issue with external powermeters.
Am I missing a firmware update or is this known behaviour? Im am running firmware version 2.53.42
