      Thank you for your answers.

I am definitely in the market for a dedicated bike computer.

Mainly because of the size of the data fields and navigation.

Probably I will end up with recording my rides on both devices (Suunto Race 2 and bike computer).

I mainly wanted to find out what are the big disadvantages when recording only with Garmin or Karoo and sync to Suunto App (Garmin over Rungap).

As far as I read, the imported data will not be 100% proper in any case. Whereas Karoo might be a bit better. But on the other side I know RunGap as very good tool from other use cases

@dani_degi Yup but I don’t think it can see your custom zones and I don’t think transferred activity has proper TSS values. I am not 100% sure on this, it was like that. Correct me if I am wrong, maybe something changed in recent times.

@Stoke80 I use #2 and it is flawless. Super easy and it’s only one button. I ride on roads so I need radar otherwise I would just use my V1.

I use #3, super happy with latest Karoo, if you have the money to spare, there’s a world difference between looking at a small circle watch screen vs a dedicated computer, day and night 😉 I have Di2 on my Orbea bike and loaded ki2 to have connection to my Di2. Also have hood buttons on my handlebars so I can move screens on my Karoo without moving my hands from the bars, rode with watch on the handlebar before, but not going back after having large bright screen on latest Karoo 🙂

                  Thank you for your input.

Is it really possible to configure the buttons on the hoods with three different functions on the Karoo? With short press, double press and long press?

I mean that would be six different functions on the Karoo for both buttons, which would be great.

And how about the trainings metrics in the Suunto App?

@Stoke80 I have been using Karoo 3 for a year, and before that I was in the Garmin 840 and Fenix 7 ecosystem for several years.

Currently, I also have a Suunto Vertical 1, but who knows, maybe after a year I will switch from Suunto to Coros to check it out.

Suunto isn’t perfect, but as an outdoor and running watch, it definitely has better features than Garmin and faster, smoother navigation when there’s a descent or an ascent, marked in color on the map on the track. Awesome.

Coros, on the other hand, tempts me to try something new.

As for the integration of Suunto and Karoo - everything is there, except for calorie synchronization. It’s a bit fucked up, because it’s just an additional field, but Suunto doesn’t suck it in from Karoo. Even if you manually enter it into a synchronized activity in Suunto, those calories are not counted, as if they weren’t there at all. Completely pointless. I don’t understand this selective integration.

Karoo 3 works much faster than Garmin 840. It’s like comparing pure Android with a sluggish phone that’s several years old.

If you’re in the Garmin ecosystem, stay there. If you want something new, try Karoo 3.

I think I will go with the Karoo 3 and give it a try.

As it is my first dedicated bike computer, I think it will be complex enough to set everything up properly on the Karoo.

I assume Garmin would be even more complex and additionally, I don’t want to get involved in their universe.

@Stoke80 yes, but to have to have electronic shifting I think? I have Di2 from Shimano, there’s AXS system from SRAM as well.

As far as training, as mentioned above, calories do not make it (will report to Suunto) and the feeling, well that one is never specified on Karoo so not sure how we want this on Suunto side 🙂

Karoo HR zones are not being displayed, that’s a known limitation, not a deal breaker for me as I train by powermeter and FTP is king 🙂

                            @Stoke80 I haven’t encountered this in Garmin.

I was very pleasantly surprised once when Karoo 3, while navigating a track (road bike), informed me that the road was closed to traffic except for bicycles 🙂

It’s a nice little feature in recognizing signs that are marked on the map 🙂

Thank you. Well, I have Di2 on my road bike and AXS in my MTB. So I can experience both worlds.

Well, maybe then I need also to invest in a powermeter. Favero pedals are smiling at me already since a while 😊

@Stoke80 Karoo 3 - you get warnings about roads and signs, which Garmin doesn’t have.

anyone using a Karoo 2? I have used the K3 and it is great, but sold it. The deals on eBay for a K2 are really good right now. They are $200 or less US. I know they stopped receiving updates, but my 1040 does not get all the new cool things either.

Curious if anyone still recommends the K2 or should I spend the 300 more.

I’m using Wahoo elmnt roam V2 and Vertical 2. I start activity on both (watch on hand), to have all metrics in Suunto app and occasionally to look at zone sense on watch. But I also use intervals.icu as data hub. It’s fantastic app thanks to which I got rid of my dependence on the applications of the main manufacturers and can use almost any brand and various devices. Once tried that and I will never use anything else.🙂
