Connecting sensor in-activity

I am wondering - is there a way to connect to (an already paired) sensor after the activity starts? If for some reason it doesn’t connect at the beginning (or one forgets to turn it on), I couldn’t find a way to start using it mid-activity… with Garmin, this was easy to do. Thanks!
