Update: Returning My Vertical 2

No, I can’t. Not more than I wrote.
Well, but there must have been a reason for buying it in the first place.
What were your expectations?
The specs are out there, you can even compare both watches on the website.Or what’s the purpose of this thread? Solely self reflection?
-
@lessthanmore I think your perspective is flawed.
First of all, this is a commercial business, and there will always be new models.
My watch became obsolete before the warranty expired. But that’s not a big deal.
The logic should be this:
If I’m going to buy a new Suunto watch for outdoor use, I’ll get the Vertical 2.
But I already have a Suunto Vertical 1, so I’ll use it until it breaks.
That’s the logic. -
@JonasLarsson I understand your reasons. The VI is a great watch and the MIP display has its distinct advantages as well as the disadvantages. Plus, battery life on the solar cannot be beat.
-
@lessthanmore You say ‘solely self reflection’ like it’s a bad thing. Should I have included a spec sheet?
-
@safari You’re right. I should do exactly what I did. Oh wait.

Thanks for understanding. The V1 does everything I need.

No, not at all. I fully understand you and I personally value the sustainable aspect of it.
My question was more related to the fact why you even ordered it and returned it knowing what you already knew when ordering the V2.
I caught myself yesterday with two new trail running shows in the basket and then deleting it for similar reasons.@safari I honestly don’t know what you’re referring to. I do understand and support his decision but my perspective should not matter here.

I have just had a V2 delivered. I’m keeping mine, the display is just so much nicer and clearer in every day use. I pick up the V1 after a few days and the screen just looked smaller (the band around the edge) and harder to read.
But I totally get what you are saying and can understand why you are returning it. The difference is minimal…
But the V2 screen makes it with it for me.
However it is very second best to the V1 on the bike. I read here that a tester found no problems following a bike route in the V2. I do, the screen goes black and apart from the route roads are hard to see.
It is a minimal upgrade. But a others have mentioned I was well aware of the difference.
Owe and the touch I have found myself using nearly every day.

An example of awareness and knowing what you value and appreciate. Glad it’s working well for you!

Why did you order the watch? All the functions of the new watch are available on website and on internet there are tons of reviews.
Did you expect to have some surprises that were not presented?
I don’t understand this thing, to order and to return the watch. Not in this case, sorry. -
@JonasLarsson you decission makes a lot of sense to me. I have a Race 2 and I am also considering to sell it and get a V1… I can’t get used to having a watch where I can’t always see the time without wasting a lot of battery (AMOLED).
-
@Bogdan1921 sorry, knowing the spec and feeling the watch on my arm are two totally different things
-
I love my v1
-
Makes sense. I’ve also decided not to get a V2 to replace my V1. It’s a great watch.
-
Just a thought. Probably the biggest disappointment is that it’s not mip, and I’m pretty sure that if version 2 had had a different fate with the display, things would probably have turned out differently. When things work out, we almost always regret the past, but in my opinion this could be a “dangerous” bias if we look to the future…
-
Hello I think it’s two models were released too quickly because of the utmb and that in 6 months it will have completely changed remember two models the v1 has these beginnings and what has become today race 2 and vertical 2 will surely evolve and receive several novelties otherwise what’s the point of having put such a powerful processor in it you just have to be patient

About this particular point, I was suprised to see how much time and effort is put by Joaquin in his video here to justify/convince us about the change from MIP to AMOLED (more than half of the video?). In fact, after the watching it, I clearly felt, more than before, that AMOLED was not for me!
They even featured the new Nomad as an example of the “MIP to beat” -
Just crossed my mind… if v2 came without the HR sensor and instead a bigger battery & even slightly thinner than v1, then would look like an upgrade to me, at least on paper. Thinner and more juice than v1!

A V2 with MIP, LED flashlight and the new OHR would have (in my opinion) been a BIG win for Sunto (and for us).
-
@ggrego Someone made this decision – probably for some reason, and it’s very possible it was a mistake, judging by some people’s reactions.
Perhaps a better option would have been to release Vertical 2 with a new update in Q4 2025 – then it would have been something new and different from Race 2.
This was the case with the Race 1 release – it introduced a lot of new features (e.g., HRV, etc.), which then made their way to Vertical and 9PP.
