Is the Suunto app still being developed?š
-
@thanasis
search the forum, thereās a thread about it, but Iām not sure there are slots still available -
@Sascha-Domres Hopefully, they are not developing the app just for you, as I imagine your comments might be a bit frustrating for the developers. Personally, I appreciate how Suunto takes a careful approach to updatesāit reminds me of Apple. The āno change seenā feeling is actually intentional, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience.
-
@Ghost Well, I really hope that they program the app for me as a user and know how to use constructive criticism. If the changes arenāt even announced in a beta, thatās not transparent. Communication works differently. Maybe itās frustrating for the programmers, it could beā¦ For users and buyers, itās incomprehensible and disappointing. In the long or short term, that will affect purchasing behaviorā¦ There really canāt be anything better for a company than for users to voice criticismā¦ I canāt confirm the meticulous update policy you mentioned. Without this forum (which isnāt particularly well-known or official), many users would be helplessā¦ Look at all the bugs and how long it takes until thereās official movement in the form of fixesā¦ Customers have to search forums to get help. Thatās absolutely not transparent or communicative on Suuntoās partā¦
-
I get your point, but I see it differently. Suunto prioritizes stability over rapid, flashy updates, which is why changes might not always be immediately visible or announced in beta. That doesnāt mean theyāre not happening. Transparency is important, but so is a careful, well-tested rollout to avoid unnecessary issues. As for communication, while this forum may not be official, it still serves as a valuable space for users to share insights and solutions. No company is perfect, but Suuntoās approach to updates seems more about reliability than rushing fixes.
That said, my comment wasnāt about the substance of your remarks but the way they were expressed. In general, I donāt appreciate seeing things being dismissed or belittled just because they arenāt fully understood. Constructive criticism is valuable, but so is acknowledging different perspectives.
-
@Ghost I didnāt denigrate anything, but rather constructively criticizedā¦ we simply donāt agree. Thatās not a bad thingā¦ I just donāt like it when people assume that you donāt understand the programmingā¦ for me, results and facts countā¦ And in my opinion, theyāre taking a long time to arriveā¦
-
@Sascha-Domres What specifically do you want that you do not have? For me the #1 is
Offline maps and offline routing possible and sent to watch.
Second
Calendar function for planning and interpreting training. (I can dump TP with this one).Not much more that I need. I already only use a few S+ apps and the ones I need are there. I would like ZS baked into the firmware and I want to be able to set elevation gain as a target in the watch.
-
@Brad_Olwin First of all, it would be professional if Suunto announced the new features in the beta. You described the improvements in navigation yourselfā¦ I agree with thatā¦ the whole forum is full of suggestions for improvementā¦ it would be great if they could implement some of themā¦ in general, I find it exhausting to see things through fanboy glasses here in the forumā¦ a lot of things are simply not properly reflected and very often they are sugar-coatedā¦ I am now eagerly awaiting the next big thing. There is nothing to see in the beta yetā¦
-
Sorry but where I read āfanboy glassesā I could also say āpragmatic approach.ā This forum is - quite frankly - fantastic, and thatās said without any fanboy glasses being worn. Polar, by comparison is a black hole.
Suunto, like all companies, exists to make money. Where feedback is given, it will carry out analysis, and implement the features (HW, SW and APP related) which will grow its market share and/ or revenue/ profit. This is of course carried out against a background of limited resources (i.e. not unlimited) and an ethos of āspend money to make money.ā
If one of the watch brands happens to produce a watch that is the perfect for you - be happy! I would say you are in the extreme minority. Otherwise, use what you have, the best way you can, and donāt expect a custom product to be developed just for you. The forum has quite a lot of people in that bracket, who will end up just being very disappointed!
Get moving, get fit and enjoy your imperfect watch
-
@Sascha-Domres If itās kindness (fanboy glasses) is directed at me Iāll say this: you can criticize Suunto all you want, criticize its features, suggest improvementsādo whatever you like. But dismissing the work of developers as āweakā and devaluing a companyās contributions without even attempting to understand the nuances of technical timelines and overall approach is simply a matter of poor education, and I admit Iām quite sensitive to that. If Iām a fan of anything, itās engaging with respectful individuals.
-
@Sascha-Domres I ask again. What do you need that the app does not have?
-
@Brad_Olwin ?
what are you getting at? that everything is great? come onā¦ the answers are all in the forumā¦ read through all the bugs and errorsā¦ then put that in relation to the price of the watches. The key word is development!! What are the milestones since the release of the Vertical? Yes, exactly one function - zonesense. On the other hand, the heart rate measurement has failed, the POIs are limited, etc. See the bug list. Iāll ask again. What are the milestones that reflect the major developments? For me, somehow that doesnāt registerā¦ but of course, I just donāt understand it allā¦ What I do understand, however, is that competitors arenāt sleepingā¦ What a shame, isnāt it? Because Iāve decided to go with Suunto again, but I think that was the wrong decision. You donāt need to say anything, I know whatās coming. And yes, my money, my problemā¦ -
@Sascha-Domres New features since the release of SV? Really?
Watch this site: https://www.suunto.com/de-de/Support/Software-Updates/Versionshinweise/suunto-vertical-software-updates/
-
@Mitch9 Yes, really, because all I read is fixed, fixed, fixedā¦
-
@Sascha-Domres Then read more carefully!
-
@Ghost I apologize if I expressed myself in a way that was too provocative. The developers canāt help itā¦ but it should be understood that despite all the developersā efforts, many customers hardly get anything. Why is that? Certainly not the developers themselvesā¦ Suunto should move. Their surveys are a step. Now they should finally deliver. If I have personally attacked you, Iām sorry. That was not my intention.
-
@Sascha-Domres No, you havenāt attacked me personally. In my opinion your statement is just absolutly wrong.
-
@Sascha-Domres Itās all good. As long as you keep it respectful, we can discuss.
I use the Suunto Vertical primarily for sports, focusing on training efficiency rather than all-in-one tracking. I donāt use sleep monitoring or wrist-based heart rate, as I prefer more accurate external sensors. My main interest is in the ZoneSense algorithm, which helps me optimize my efforts based on real-time intensity.
Iām completely satisfied with both the watch and the appātheyāre well-designed and offer everything I need. My usage is quite specific, and I know that everyone has different expectations from their devices. For me, what matters most is having a reliable tool for training, without unnecessary features that donāt add value to my experience.
Still, I fully understand your perspective, and if itās communicated in a respectful manner, it will always be better received by those who are doing their best to bring the features that some users want.
-
@Sascha-Domres I think what Brad asks you is āwhat BIG thing in the app are you waiting forā. I am with him that there are many small things that could be changed - I would also love to see a calendar integration or that tags could be deleted or that I could tap on the HR/Resources/Steps etc. graphs and see a timestamp etc., but donāt you consider the app as a whole very polished?
-
@Brad_Olwin a lot of things are missing or badly developed. Personal bests are a joke. Route comparison is a joke. Both things unusable. Tracking gear? With tags? Alerts for gear maintenance? Importing activities - missing data, wrong zones, suunto coach becomes unusable.
Just check intervals.icu what can be done, full customization, notifications for best power/pace, when to charge battery and so on. SA is just very basicā¦
-
My issue with the app is that it canāt upload correct laps to strava/export them to fit files. that breaks runna, trainasone, and basically any external structured workouts tool.
and apparently itās been broken in this way forever. so a watch billed āthe ultimate performance watch for racing and trainingā (race/race s), canāt be used for training, at least outside of suuntoās (limited) native workouts.
I am not even getting into ānice to haveā things, or exciting new features. i just had to return the watch because i canāt get it to do the fundamentals
i did my part and reported the issue but between the slow automated responses i donāt have confidence that this will ever be fixed.
