Is the Suunto app still being developed?š
-
@Sascha-Domres echo this. I feel some of the changes have been either bug fixes or features targeting a ānicheā segment of athletes. The adventurous and āIām in it for the fun and explorationā- segment (which I believe is a huge group of yours) has been neglected. POIs are pointless in itās current form (would love to see an āup nextā feature or more icon options as an example), why remove the āpause/stopā function when in map, whereās point to navigate from the watch, live tracking (security), custom battery options, ability to have more Sunnto+ running (seriously, why only two?), etc.

For example, I would like to simply select a point on the map and say take me thereā¦ The track should then be sent directly to the watch without saving it first.
Another Garmin feature
Navigation using the Suunto app is really, pretty good. On Sunday, I compared it directly with Polar (and itsā use of Komoot) and although the route was almost identical, Suunto was very quick and easy. Using Polar itās really not so simple. Maybe we should create a new thread of real comparisons of features, using practical experience?

@Sascha-Domres Zonesense is a huge update with far-reaching consequences and much more impactful than mirroring screens to the app. I would love to see some of your suggestions but I think you need to examine the implications of updates that have been implemented recently.
Totally. ZoneSense was the reason I came back to Suunto, awesome feature

@The_77 hi,
I am aware of the problem of maps that cannot be routed. However, I would have absolutely no problem if this were only done online and via the app. For most applications, this should be completely sufficient. If there are no further developments in this segment, I would miss it very much and would probably choose a different manufacturer at some point. (Coros, Garmin, Apple Watch with some 3rd party appā¦)
As I wrote, I really like Suunto. The quick alignment of the compass or the map in the direction of travel is a unique selling point. Only the AW Ultra can keep up here. However, I have the feeling that the app is being developed far too slowly. If the watch firmware is updated four times a year, I fear that Suunto will soon be overtaken by its competitors. I am also aware that firmware and app updates have to work togetherā¦
To be honest, as soon as COROS manages to offer better quality and better looking watches, I see them as the most aggressive and agile competitor. I am now hoping for the next firmware for the watch and thus also for a new version of the Suunto app. In addition to stability of old functions, I would like confirmation that I have chosen the right manufacturer for me. You wonāt be able to achieve this with new watch faces. It should be clear that these are just the basics. -
@wakarimasen hi,
Interesting, unfortunately I canāt say anything about Polar. But I would be interested to know how quickly the maps align? Does the compass and map alignment work as well as with Suunto? How is it zooming the maps? I find it terrible with Garmin, for example. I find the Grit x 2 pro very appealing. Which one have you tested? -

So essentially, whatās there is fine, you just donāt wish to save the route to send it across, only to send the point to the watch? I imagine that would require the watch calculating the rerouting, which is only a Garmin feature for years at this point. Would be lovely ofc.
Maybe this post should be moved if youāre mostly talking about watch firmware update speed I guess?
-
@The_77 Regarding moving the postā¦ Iām not sure if itās due to the development of the app or the firmware or both. I suspect that the software is still in the hands of SportsTracker? Maybe they always have to free up capacity for Suunto firstā¦ I donāt know. Some functions may work without adjusting the firmwareā¦ so Iād leave the post hereā¦ there are already other postings about the frequency of updates to the watches
-
@ilstrup and unfortunately the number of POIs is still very limitedā¦ I have saved a lot of them and was surprised that only a few are displayedā¦ I think a maximum of 15 or so
-
@Sascha-Domres Vantage V3. Canāt say I noticed much difference in the performance of aligning. I didnāt try to zooming on the Polar.

New iOS beta just got released. It took some time to download. Activity summary has been redesigned, I like the card look. I wonder what more is hiding under the hood.
-
@dulko79 agree - looks nice
-
A great feature would be Release notes. But the Suunto community seems to love treasure hunting (to find the changes). Lets see what the crowd will find - there is a separate thread for it

How do people get the beta ?
-
@thanasis On iOS, download TestFlight.
-
@Ghost I have TestFlight . But I assume someone needs to share the app or a token , right ?
-
@thanasis
search the forum, thereās a thread about it, but Iām not sure there are slots still available -
@Sascha-Domres Hopefully, they are not developing the app just for you, as I imagine your comments might be a bit frustrating for the developers. Personally, I appreciate how Suunto takes a careful approach to updatesāit reminds me of Apple. The āno change seenā feeling is actually intentional, ensuring a seamless and user-friendly experience.
-
@Ghost Well, I really hope that they program the app for me as a user and know how to use constructive criticism. If the changes arenāt even announced in a beta, thatās not transparent. Communication works differently. Maybe itās frustrating for the programmers, it could beā¦ For users and buyers, itās incomprehensible and disappointing. In the long or short term, that will affect purchasing behaviorā¦ There really canāt be anything better for a company than for users to voice criticismā¦ I canāt confirm the meticulous update policy you mentioned. Without this forum (which isnāt particularly well-known or official), many users would be helplessā¦ Look at all the bugs and how long it takes until thereās official movement in the form of fixesā¦ Customers have to search forums to get help. Thatās absolutely not transparent or communicative on Suuntoās partā¦
-
I get your point, but I see it differently. Suunto prioritizes stability over rapid, flashy updates, which is why changes might not always be immediately visible or announced in beta. That doesnāt mean theyāre not happening. Transparency is important, but so is a careful, well-tested rollout to avoid unnecessary issues. As for communication, while this forum may not be official, it still serves as a valuable space for users to share insights and solutions. No company is perfect, but Suuntoās approach to updates seems more about reliability than rushing fixes.
That said, my comment wasnāt about the substance of your remarks but the way they were expressed. In general, I donāt appreciate seeing things being dismissed or belittled just because they arenāt fully understood. Constructive criticism is valuable, but so is acknowledging different perspectives.
-
@Ghost I didnāt denigrate anything, but rather constructively criticizedā¦ we simply donāt agree. Thatās not a bad thingā¦ I just donāt like it when people assume that you donāt understand the programmingā¦ for me, results and facts countā¦ And in my opinion, theyāre taking a long time to arriveā¦
