Race/Vertical, AMOLED/MIP regarding cycling
-
Hi,
Just wanted to ask if Race’s AMOLED display on the dimmed state during and activity is enough bright for using the watch attached to a bike’s handlebar, especially under bright sun, or Vertical’s MIP display is better for someone who spends enough time on the bike. Any screenshots?
Thanks

For me at least, the Race “dimmed” is bright enough. Not tested on the bike though. And in Finland its not that bright sun right now

@SuuntoR, thanks for the reply.
Do touching the screen “wakes” the watch to full on display or only wrist raise and pushing a button does this?

Good question. Don’t have the watch with me right now. Maybe someone else can give better answer or I can test it later. But I think the touch screen is disabled during an activity, so no waking the screen just touching it? The touch screen is on, only on the map view when recording an activity, so maybe with that view on…?

I can’t speak for the Race, but the vertical is great for cycling. I have a Suunto mount so the watch sits on my handlebars and both the visibility and legibility are great whatever the weather

@mlakis Did the Rapha Festive 500km cycle over 6 days from 24 December to 30 December in daytime conditions in Dubai (bright and sunny), with Race mounted on my handlebar in lowest brightness mode. Although I use reading glasses, I don’t use them while cycling, and the screen was clearly visible and readable throughout.

@mlakis touch is doing nothing during activity, the screen brightness is higher when raising wrist or pressing buttons only.

Saw this video where Fenix 7 and Epix are compared, where it’s kind of same story, similar watch with different displays.
The displays are compared on full bright sun, and I think on the waked up state, and on some footage the Epix (amoled one) is pretty unreadable.
With that in mind, I was sceptical that having an amoled watch like Race on a handlebar in dimmed state would be a not so smart idea.
But on the other hand, on all other situations, Race’s display seems awesome.

Any photos and/or experience with Race and cycling?
