Stryd and Trainingpeaks: Full metrics, download of workout to watch and no duplicates. How?
-
Hi everyone
what I am trying to achieve is the following:
I have:- Stryd power footpad
- Suunto Race
- a training plan on Trainingpeaks and one on the Stryd Powercenter
I would like to:
- be able to push the workout of the day to the watch and follow it
- sync a completed workout to the Suunto app as well as to the Stryd Powercenter, the latter complete with all the Stryd metrics available
- avoid the Stryd POwercenter or Trainingpeaks calender be cluttered with duplicates
Can somebody out there help me to set this up?
Thank you in advance! -
@Christoph13 No choice here, you will have to delete the duplicates on TrainingPeaks since you have plans on both. The other solution is to manually create the Stryd plans on TP and not sync to the Powercenter.

@Christoph13 I can’t comment on the workout syncing because I don’t use either TP or Stryd for my training plan. However, regarding the activity data I am pretty sure the only way to capture the advanced stryd metrics for an activity is to manually sync the stryd using the stryd app afterwards. The stryd powercentre will merge the additional metrics into the activity automatically.
There was rumour / mention of a stryd Suunto App in the works that would improve this but nothing official afaik.

Thank you, @Brad_Olwin @far-blue for your replies. I am aware of the necessity for a post-run merge of the advanced Stryd metrics in the Powercenter. A nuisance certainly, but not a show-stopper either.
I did not make it clear in my original post that I am not trying to use training plans coming from Trainingpeaks or Stryd simultaneously. In reality it is always only going to be one OR the other, so disabling the unused connection would be a possibility.
However, it would be a lot better if connections in general could be set to any of
- bidirectional
- read-only
- write-only
- off
That way a more finely tuned control would be possible, allowing e.g. pushing a structured workout to the watch but not writing it back once completed from the Suunto App because the same completed workout including the advanced Stryd data would be available in the Stryd Powercenter.
Speaking of which, I had figured out in the meantime how to push a planned workout to the watch from Trainingpeaks.
Two follow-up questions if I may:
- can I modify the display of the S+ app for the structured workout, e.g. include power values?
- can a planned workout coming from the Stryd platform be used, too?
Thanks for any insight!

I doubt the connections will change as you would like since there are many third parties involved and I would imagine they may operate somewhat differently.
For the followup questions, power values will show on the S+ Guide if you have them set in TrainingPeaks as a power workout or from Stryd. A planned workout should work from Stryd ( my Stryd footpod died and won’t charge so I unfortunately cannot test this). You can easily have planned workouts sync from both Stryd and TP with no issues.

Just to add to @Brad_Olwin 's answer:
The control of which values are shown on the workout page is through the Suunto Guide - meaning it is controlled by wherever the workout originated such as TrainingPeaks. You’d need to prompt them for improvements if you wanted options to customise. On the flip side, this does mean it’s possible for different steps of a workout to have different fields showing which has great potential if used cleverly
Regarding the sync of workouts vs sync of activities this is also something you can possibly raise with the third parties rather than Suunto. All the Suunto APIs do is inform the third party there is data available and it’s up to them to pick what to pull. Suunto doesn’t ‘push’ the data to them. I use TrainAsOne for my workouts and their Suunto integration allows you to separately control the push of workouts and the pull of activities - I could push workouts to Suunto but pull the workouts from Strava if I wanted.
So, I guess, consider raising the questions with TrainingPeaks and Stryd as well as they probably have more opportunity to add the features you want than Suunto do

Unfortunately, Stryd only offers syncing planned workouts (e.g., from its training plans) on the Apple Watch and Garmins. For Suunto, Polar and Coros, Stryd only supports importing activities into its platform after the fact.

I think that this is a pity!
