It seems that the watch doesn’t support proper altitude with the connected GPS. I am on android with the latest SA and lates firmware on the watch.
Using the same phone, I was able to record proper altitudes in Strava last month on the same route.
Is this expected behavior or I can report it as a bug?

It’s a bug (SA bug), and you don’t need to report. It’s the most famous bug in this forum, and it’s supposed to be fixed in coming in next weeks.
Best regards

Interesting, if I export the activity from sport tracker and the import it in strava, I see the elevation information. Do the gpx files contain the information and it’s just not present or strava is doing interpolation based on the GPS track?
Anyways this is a workaround I guess.

@nikolavp strava always calculates altitude per GPS point based on their maps
-
@nikolavp It seems that the problem is in SA…
-
@nikolavp can you paste the gpx file here ?

@Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos here is the file 0_1536853256080_9_13_18 6_39 AM.gpx

@nikolavp I can see there is no elevation on the GPX so it’s strava doing that.

It’s now 2020. Still no altitude. Given the heart rate is also inaccurate on a bike, the watch is not very useful beyond giving a distance and speed.
Emailed Suunto. Rep refused to forward to manager.
Most disappointing watch.
