Resume later

@skifun Agreed but it you want to merge activities you can export fit files or have them automatically exported, then re-import.
I use Training Peaks and have used TP longer than Suunto online (prior to MovesCount). SA does not have sufficient Training Planning Tools for me but that may come, there are a lot of improvements happening with the app. If Training Planning gets implemented I will say goodbye to TP. -
@Brad_Olwin said in Resume later:
@André-Faria Many places to merge activities and upload to Suunto. I typically merge online and then send through Runalyze or RunGap (iOS).
@Brad_Olwin I understand all that, but I think a lot of clients prefer to stay on suunto app. And I believe Suunto also learned that “fast” with the recent training center on the app.
As clients we come to the forum, to ask , but also we take our time to explain why. If we didn’t knew the alternives we would ask on how to do it.
Everytime I see this kind of answers, it makes me think that Suunto sometimes is still in the old way…where we have to go 3rd parties, import, export etc.
Fortunately the app evolution shows the opposite, simplicity and integration.
Hope the watches follow even more this line.
Features like this simplify the life for the little ambitions of those who buys the watch and just want to enjoy it.
I also work on product development and when we have little resources every feature that the client asks, becomes a little stressful and maybe unneeded, but if it asked many times, maybe there is a reason, even if on the teams they don’t see it that way.PS: nothing personal, quite like to see different ways of thinking also, and I think Suunto is evolving fast.

@Brad_Olwin all good, but you lose data or it is not displayed in SA, for example cadence graph, power graph when cycling. Otherwise this would be a solution

@André-Faria Resume later was a question in that latest survey. I certainly see the need for it whether or not I might use it. This is especially true as battery life keeps getting longer. I think we should have the flexibility but what I wanted to stress is I think Suunto is fairly responsive to survey preferences if enough demand it should be implemented. I am frustrated as well by import limitations in SA, I have accidentally deleted exercises and importing often is not perfect.

I am a for for the ‘Resume Later’. I can definitely see both sides but even if it’s not something that you’ll use often it’s still nice to have available as an option IMO

Does anyone try multisport to make a break from the main activity with an activity without GPS to save battery?
-
@Kramble It in fact works nicely for that purpose, but it breaks down your main activity in multisport segmens, which makes the analysis of the data more painful in my opinion; also several services (for instance Runalyze) will split the main activity in all the multisport segments - one activity per segment.

Glad to have found this as I just posted this question in suunto vertical thread. So I never saw this mentioned in above comments. For me this feature is most important for overnight hike etc I want to have te one gps track and one gpx file so that I can then navigate there again or give to someone else just the one file. Otherwise I would then have to make and save 2 separate routes in my watch one for the first day and one for the second day for this particular hike. Much easier to have it all as one nice and neat.
I was thinking because suunto doesn’t have this feature what I could do on up coming hike is at end of day one change gps setting to ultra track or whatever it’s called so it’s only pinging every hour while I sleep. In morning change back to dual band etc would this be a possible work around for us using suunto for multi day hike ?

reading all this thread : my point of vue is that it would be useful to have functions in SA to merge/edit activities and gpx files !
I want my watch to remain simple.
The only annoying case I think a resume activity function would have been great is when I stopped accidentally activity. Despite my S9b was locked, it happened last year on my first ultra (buttons on the S9b ambassador are huge…unlocked and stopped just with hand movements - I was pissed off)…just missed few meters but had to start a new activity.
A merging function in SA would have saved me the same has a resume possibility (not exactly by the way : the resume function would have kept the average pace, total distance….of my course - in this case it would have been great).But on multiple activities/days trip that would be part of the same training/adventure, I’rather have a merging option in SA, that could work two ways :
- 1 choosing to totally merge activities to make one unique
- 2 choosing to « gather » activities, and then have similar displays that when using the multisport function : a global activity but where you can see details of every activity in it. The export fil option could then be : export every single gpx from every component, or export the whole gpx.

@Tieutieu
I add crop to the list, I find it more important than resume later… but that’s an SA, not a watch feature -
@gone-troppo
Even with Garmin Resume later function isn’t overly recommended as:- technically watch still in tracking mode so certain features like sleep tracking etc don’t work.
- Crash concern - if watch for some reason does crash you have lost complete track. At least stopping and starting each day would mean potentially only losing that day.
Most of us just use fit tools: https://www.fitfiletools.com/#/top to splice together each days record instead to give one whole track.

I have posted the solution to this annoying problem here. Remember to vote this feature request if you think this is helpful: https://forum.suunto.com/topic/12236/resume-later-feature

Personally I’d be in favour of the ‘gathering’ suggestion where in the SA you could pull multiple activities into a group and see an overview of them as a whole. You could add in info such as the gap time/distance between the activities so you could see how long you spent between them and even throw in info such as time sleeping and HRV etc.
This would work in loads of situations from multi-day ultras to 24 hour loop events such as Equinox24. If, in the watch activity setup you had the option to flag the activity as part of a set then SA could also hold off on exporting the activities to 3rd parties and give you the option to export as a single activity or the separate activities after you are finished. I think this is a more flexible and safer approach than a simple ‘resume’ option.
It could also support mixed activities such as a mix of road and trail running (or cycling) or your traditional triathlon style events but where they are not contiguous (such as the Long Course Weekend events).
