From time to time my Suunto 5 shows a shorter route distance on the same route. That means it stores less trackpoints with the same setting. What’s going wrong? What can I do prevent these situations?

without having looked at the files: could it be, that you switched power modes before starting the activity? The top button does this in the pre start screen and it is reflected by different color codes and battery time left.

@Louis1945 for a start are both file represent something different, track vs route.

The ‘route’ file contains the route you took, without timestamps or any other data (export GPX route).

The ‘track’ file represents the recording of the actual workout you did, including timestamps (export GPX workout).

The ‘track’ file shows that it was recording trackpoints only once a minute… hence very few trackpoints.

Suspect the difference has to do with the recording option chosen when you started the activity… ‘Performance’ versus ‘Endurance’ mode.

@Louis1945 if you track route in forrest or between hills, S5 is not much accurate from my experience. Especially without autopause it can record significant distance when you have a break for few minutes.

@Louis1945 @Tomas5 regardless of accuracy there would be always the same amount of trackpoints in an hour.

One file has 3434… so 1 trackpoint every second (corresponds to ‘performance’ mode), while the other file contains only 166… initially 2m recording were every second, but the rest of the hour is was using only recording per minute.

I don’t have a Suunto 5, but can it be that the battery was low and it automatically switch from ‘performance’ to ‘endurance’ mode?

@twekkel i didn’t analyse files because i was on mobile only. I just know that distance measured on same route can differ if GPS conditions are not perfect. In case there are different numbers of trackpoints, it must be by different battery mode. It is simple by mistake to change battery mode, so it can be that reason.
