@Martin-Vrska Hi there. Good question! I might initially ignore the 20% battery notification, but more than likely I’ll just quickly fish out the charger (usually I forget where Ive put it because I charge it so infrequently) and with the quick charge feature, it will be topped up to 100% in around 45 minutes and ready for another adventure.

@Martin-Vrska between 5 and 20%. Although I wonder if it’s safe for the battery to go under 20% and above 80%.

Well … it’s safe (in terms of possible danger) but not recommended to avoid battery wear

what I never know in general: do manufacturers control these limits?
I mean if it is wearing the battery so much a company that strives for sustainability should charge and use within these limits, no?

@freeheeler That’s a good point. I never really understood the 80% thing, from the point of view of if its that impactful, shouldn’t everything be set to stop at 80% charge out of the box, with an option to charge to 100% if you plan a big outing away from a charging source, no?

@freeheeler if 20 - 80% is beneficial for battery life, I’d like to know it from Suunto as an official statement. I see no need to go over 80% with S9PP with its battery capacity and quick charge.

                  @freeheeler said in Charging:

I mean if it is wearing the battery so much

In fact I wouldn’t say “so much” but “more”
That said, if you don’t fully charge it, you won’t be able to squeeze all the juice you need out of it 😁

You should be able to choose (like you can do with some mobile phone) to stop at 80%, but maybe you won’t increase the longevity that much to justify additional hardware/software management, considering you don’t need to charge it frequently.

After 5+ years of use without too much care 😁 my Spartan is still (touching wood) ok

… and we don’t know if that 100% we see refers to 100% battery capacity

                    this discussion is rather academic.
A state of the art LiIon battery used between 20% and 100% charge has like 1000 charging cycles before degrading significantly.
When only charged to 90% full this number is almost doubled to 2000 charging cycles.

As the Suunto 9 Peak Pro under normal conditions needs to be charged like once a week, it will last around 20 years with 20-100% charging.
This is long enough to not make me think about it.
If you are a “wrap TV remote into plastic bag” kind of person, then you might want to charge 20-80%. Otherwise just use it.

(me myself I charge whenever it fits into my daily routine - like during morning shower.)

@Egika but what if we wrap the watch into a plastic bag? Will it help? 😄

@Łukasz-Szmigiel if you wrap it tight, it improves OHR performance 🙂
