random beeps during activity

@mountainChris
I noticed random beeps very rarely on my S9B, too… to rare to figure out the reason -
@mountainChris That message is shown only when you are on the navigation screen. And I am not completely sure that compass is deactivated when you turn the navigation off.
Anyway, I noticed this as well with my S9 (non-baro) and recently more often with my girlfriend’s S9P. And that random beep indeed sounds identical to the one that compass calibration makes.
-
@mountainChris don’t know. But I’ve used button lock recently and heard the beeps as well. Thought it might indicate me pressing a button multiple times but the action being prevented by a button lock.
-
@inkognito thanks. I think there is no way of compass calibration during excerise, if you do not get a message? Or? But I didn’t test the options for that.
-
@mountainChris There is no way to force it from the menu during excercise. But, if you are on the navigation screen, you don’t move and your watch thinks the calibration might be wrong, it will ask for it.

-
@mountainChris I have same problem, I set to vibrate only so some time has vibration without anything else.
-
@mountainChris It has been discussed here several times. According to @Dimitrios-Kanellopoulos, it’s a compass calibration. If I remember correctly.
-
@Pavlas thanks. But why is there no message to calibrate compass?

My S9P beeps irregularly, but repeatingly and randomly more at the end of mountaineering days? Display shows nothing, normal training screen. Battery is charged. No messages, alarm… Does anybody know, what it is? Thanks.
Same here, with or without locking. Have noticed it only on mountaineering-hiking activities and not on cycling or running. Assumed compass calibration or GPS fix but no info appears.
-
@mountainChris One reason for this is the compass has encountered a magnet. I have running vests with pockets that strong magnets to keep them closed and this triggers beeps, often accompanied by a request to calibrate the compass.
-
@Brad_Olwin thanks. Interesting! It happend when going downhill by via ferrata.
-
@mountainChris metal may obscure the compass readings too.
-
And rocks can also contain some magnetite or ferrite that is not a friend of compass calibration
